An Overview of the Department of Biological Sciences
THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES AT UAH
The Biological Sciences undergraduate program at UAH is designed to offer each student exposure to the intellectual breadth of the modern life sciences from cell and molecular biology, through microbiology, integrated physiology and anatomy, to ecology and environmental biology. Programs of study lead to specialized training in a variety of fields: secondary education, pre- professional programs in medicine and dentistry, certified programs in medical technology, microbiology, environmental science and conservation biology. Many students continue their education in graduate and professional programs. Students in the Biological Sciences develop their own specific programs of study in consultation with personal faculty advisors. All programs in the future (starting Fall 1994) will have a common core of courses: Introductory Biology, taken in the freshman year; Genetics in the sophomore year; Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology in the junior year; and a capstone seminar taken in the senior year. But in either case students choose their faculty advisors to help them tailor the rest of their program to fit their particular interests and professional goals. In general, Biological Sciences will finish their general education requirements and begin supportive coursework in chemistry, mathematics and their minor in their freshman and sophomore years. During the junior and senior years coursework will typically concentrate on courses in biology and the minor.

Walk through the halls of Parrish High School....
We are a small rural school located in Walker County in the state of Alabama. Parrish is 7 miles southwest of Jasper. We were originally known as Hewitt , a post office served by Pony Express and moved to America after the Georgia Pacific Railroad was built. Coal mining made the town a very popular one,but of course, coal mining is no longer the way to make a living in Walker County. This home page is to introduce you to us and to invite you to visit with us. We are a Title One School and we are hoping to purchase some new computers to be used with remediation. Parrish High School is also a High Schools That Works and a School to Career Site.
Our Internet access has been made possible by the University of Alabama PACERS Cooperative.
Other Funded Pacer Projects that Parrish High School participates in:
  • Photography-we have our own dark room and students develop their film Newspaper- Parrish Press on line" 7th year-new articles coming for 2001-2002
