http://www.19thalabama.org/battles/chickamauga/
The Battle of Chickamauga: An Alabama Infantry Regiment's Perspective
On these fields and in the woods surrounding a small creek in northwest Georgia, Union and Confederate armies clashed during the fall of 1863 (September 19-20) in some of the hardest fighting of the Civil War. An Alabama Infantry Regiment, the 19th Alabama , fought in this battle as it had done so in other western battles since Shiloh. This regiment was composed of men from northeast Alabama. As in most Confederate regiments, the members of the 19th were not plantation owners, rather they were farmers, shopkeepers and common everyday folk. They heard their nation's call to arms and were mustered into service in September 1861. The men of the regiment fought and died largely unknown to history. It might be said that the 19th was a typical infantry unit...not flashy, but steady.
At Chickamauga the 19th had a part in an uncommon sight for the Army of Tennessee, the routing of a Federal army from the field. The second day of battle at Chickamauga was probably the 19th's greatest day in all the war. On that day, the 19th was part of the left wing of the Army of Tennessee as it broke through the Federal line and drove the Army of the Cumberland from the field. This virtual tour is designed to describe in words and pictures what the 19th saw and did on those few days in September 1863.
Overview
The prize was Chattanooga, key rail center and gateway to the heart of the Confederacy. The campaign that brought the armies to the banks of Chickamauga Creek began late in June, 1863 when General William S. Rosecrans' Army of the Cumberland, almost 60,000 strong, moved from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, against General Braxton Bragg's 43,000 Army of Tennessee. Six months earlier, these same armies clashed at Stones River (Murfreesboro) where, after a three day battle, the Confederates retreated after a "near victory." Now, once more, through a series of skillful marches, Rosecrans forced the Army of Tennessee to withdraw southeastward toward Chattanooga. There Bragg dug in northeast of the city expecting an attack from Rosecrans in that area that never came. Early in September, the Federals crossed the Tennessee River to the southeast of Chattanooga and again forced Bragg to withdraw without a fight.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (AP) Alabama's attorney general asked a judicial panel on Monday to remove suspended Chief Justice Roy Moore from office for defying a federal judge's order to take his Ten Commandments monument off public display in the state judicial building. In a pretrial brief filed with the Alabama Court of the Judiciary, Attorney General Bill Pryor said Moore should be removed because he "intentionally and publicly engaged in misconduct, and because he remains unrepentant for his behavior." Pryor's office is prosecuting Moore before the Court of the Judiciary on charges that the chief justice violated judicial canons. The trial-like proceeding begins Wednesday, and the court could remove Moore from office, suspend him, reprimand him or exonerate him. Moore, who was suspended with pay when charged, expressed doubt Monday that he can receive a fair trial. He said he is concerned that cameras will not be allowed inside the courtroom for most of the trial.

ALABAMA APPEALS STATE COURT DECISION ON TEN COMMANDMENTS
Attorney General Bill Pryor files a motion for the Alabama Supreme Court to re-hear a controversial state-church separation case. Should prayer and display of religious symbols be permitted in courtrooms and other government venues? Web Posted: February 14, 1998 axpayers in Alabama will continue to pick up the tab for legal fees in a controversial case involving a county judge who posts a copy of the Ten Commandments on his courtroom wall, and opens judicial proceedings with a prayer. Last January, the state's Supreme Court dismissed Alabama's case which was seen by legal observers as an effort to obtain a favorable court ruling supporting Etowah County Judge Roy Moore. The original suit had been filed by the state; but justices backed-off dealing with the constitutional issues. That action meant that while Moore may continue the prayer and decalogue display, any legal challenges against him must, essentially, start over or be filed in a different jurisdiction. Attorney General Bill Pryor filed a new motion last week which seeks a rehearing on the state's case. Justices may be reluctant to do so, however; in the official decision, Justice Ralph Cook who authored the ruling, cautioned that the court "will not, however, allow the judiciary of this state to become a political foil, or a sounding board for topics of contemporary interest."

James Affidavits Concerning Alabama
Attorney-General Bill Pryor's Fitness to Prosecute Roy Moore Alabama Attorney-General Bill Pryor, nominated to the U. S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, is facing new opposition to his appointment from former supporters close to his situation Former Alabama Governor Fob James has come out of retirement from public life to file affidavits urging the Alabama Court of the Judiciary to remove Pryor from his position as prosecutor against Chief Justice Roy Moore in Moore's up-and-coming suspension trial. The affidavits of former Governor James and his son raise fundamental questions about Pryor's integrity and fitness for either the prosecutorial or Eleventh Circuit job. Doug Phillips of American Vision reports that the former Governor was so concerned about Pryor's "hypocrisy and dishonesty" that James has decided to break his years of silence regarding Pryor. Additionally, Phillips has declared that "I can also say for a certainty that the former Governor was not approached by any member of the Moore team for this testimony or affidavit."

By a two-to-one margin, the makers of "Striker" and "Fox" armored military vehicles have voted to become members of the USWA. The 124 workers at the Land Division of General Dynamics in Anniston, Ala. work side-by-side with military personnel on Anniston’s Army Depot. Employees here talked about a large disparity in wages as one of the leading reasons for seeking USWA backing. Military personnel are making about $20.00 an hour while non-military workers, performing nearly identical assignments, are making between $8.00 and $12.00 an hour. Benefit reductions and an ever-changing set of work rules were also of keen concern to workers.

Hollywood, Alabama is a small town nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian mountain chain. It's so small, in fact, that they don't have a web page up yet. So I thought I'd do this one. No, that's not really it at the top. I just thought it looked cute. Anyway, I want folks to see my hometown, so I am going to be posting newsstories and pictures here. So y'all come back often and keep up with the happenings in the greatest little town in the world! (I might be a little prejudiced about that!) To take a little tour of this town and the surrounding countryside, just click on the picture below that best describes what you want to see.
