162. Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Virtual Tour
s and photographs of the launch complexes and vehicles.......
http://www.robsv.com/cape/
Long before Space Shuttles were lifting off from the Kennedy Space Center, what is now the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station was launching America's rockets. You don't hear too much about Cape Canaveral Air Force Station today, other than the fact that it launches unmanned missions. You'll see it on TV or in the news if the mission is popular (the Mars mission), if disaster strikes (the explosion of a Delta II rocket in 1997), or if the mission is controversial (Cassini). Other than that, most of the general public doesn't get to see Cape Canaveral Air Force Station unless they visit it (usually as a side trip to Kennedy Space Center). Some areas of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station can be seen on the Kennedy Space Center's "Then and Now" bus tour. Other than that, the general public doesn't get to see much of the facility. In 1996, I was given a tour by the director of the Air Force Space & Missile Museum. He spent all day escorting me to the various facilities at the Air Force Station, and patiently watched me burn off roll after roll of film. I set this site up to give a "guided tour" of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. I've included more than 50 of the better pictures I had taken, and added over 30 from other sources. I hope you enjoy it!

174. Research On Transcendental Meditation (TM) At The Swedish Air Force

(Forschung über Transzendentale Meditation

Research on Transcendental Meditation at the Swedish Air force
Sensitive test for selection of pilots indicates
profound effects on mental health
Summary
Swedish Air force pilots were examined with a test for selecting combat pilots in order to investigate the effects of Transcendental Meditation (TM). This test indicates Stress tolerance. They all underwent, without a single exception, improvements in one year that the best available psychotherapies can achieve only after about 20 times longer time or more - and only so in the best case. The result also indicates that TM can improve performance significantly under psychologically highly demanding conditions. Also, it indicates that TM can considerably improve stress tolerance in stress-prone people as DMT-Neuman measures a key factor in stress proneness. Differently from common stress treatment and prevention methods, TM apparently affects the fundamental causes of stress sensitivity.
Background
A great problem in combat pilot training all over the world has been that psychological tests have not been able to reveal the deeply seated disturbances that make persons unable to keep the head cool in highly stressful situations. In Sweden, a major part (up to 80%) of the pilot trainees failed year after year. With few exceptions, the reason was psychological inaptitude revealed under demanding flight situations. The situation has been similar in other air forces, which meant great economic losses considering the high costs of pilot training.

PREDATOR UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE (UAV), USA
RQ-1A Predator is a long endurance, medium altitude unmanned aircraft system for surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Surveillance imagery from synthetic aperture radar, video cameras and a forward looking infra-red (FLIR) can be distributed in real time both to the front line soldier and to the operational commander or worldwide in real time via satellite communication links. A contract was awarded to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems in January 1994 to execute the Tier II, Medium Altitude Endurance Predator Program. The Predator system first flew in 1994 and entered production in August 1997. Predators are currently in production for the US Air Force and are operational with the USAF 11th and 15th Reconnaissance Squadrons. Over 100 Predators have been delivered to the USAF. Six Predator UAVs are in service with the Italian Air Force. Italian company Meteor was responsible for assembly of five of the six. Predator UAVs have been operational in Bosnia since 1995, where they have flown over 600 missions in support of NATO, UN and US operations. Predators have also been deployed as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

August 18, 2003 With regards to searching for records.... An e-mail from Lisa Stein passes on the following information: NARA has WWII POW Info available. Their site is so hard to navigate though. After hitting their main page, folks can go to the AAD Search: http://aad.archives.gov/aad/title_list.jsp (link will open up into a new browser window) and search by many different values...i.e. name, rank, serial number, POW Camp, etc. If one can actually make it to the proper page, it's almost inevitable that they will find the info they are looking for concerning WWII POW's. An e-mail from Robert Garcia suggests going to the National Archives Official site (link will open up into a new browser window.) When you get there, click on SEARCH. In the keyword box, enter: Provost Marshal POW records . The electronic record group is 389. If you have any trouble, e-mail

    180. Military Women In Vietnam
In Vietnam, Army, Navy and air force Nurses and Medical Specialists numbered over six thousand. This page discusses all women who served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1973.

    Vietnam Southeast Asia
Over 58,000 Americans killed, 200,000 wounded and Women Were There! After one of the most futile conflicts in the history of war, scorned by flag burners and shunned by citizens, G.I's returned to find respect for our troops hitting an all time low. The reaction of the American people to our military was despicable. It has taken years for many servicemen and women to get over it- and some have not.
What is truly unconscionable in the annals of American military history is the fact that little or no data exists on the women who served and, yes, were injured or killed, in Southeast Asia during the Viet Nam era.
Accurate records on how many women were there, what decorations they earned, where they served - and most important - what after effects they have suffered - and continue to suffer - are nonexistent.
However from anecdotal reports, letters, from books by those who were there, from research papers by military historians, and from the excellent text "Women in the Military - An Unfinished Revolution", by Major General Jeanne Holm, USAF (Ret), we can glean the following overview.
Over five hundred WACs were stationed in Vietnam.
