153. 202 Squadron RAF Search And Rescue Helicopters
Provides helicopter rescue for military and civilian personnel in the United Kingdom.
http://www.202squadron.com
WELCOME to the 202 Squadron RAF Search and Rescue helicopters website . The Squadron operates the Sea King HAR Mk3 Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter from bases at RAF Boulmer (A Flight), RAF Lossiemouth (D Flight) and RAF (det) Leconfield (E Flight). 202 Squadron headquarters is also based at RAF Boulmer. 202 Squadron Sea Kings fly operationally with a crew of 4. There are 2 pilots, a radar operator/winch operator and a winchman who has extended paramedic training. The crew follow a 24 hour shift pattern and hold a readiness state of 15 minutes between the hours of 0800 and 2200. Outside of these hours they hold a readiness of 45 minutes and remain within the Flight building overnight. In addition to the crew, the aircraft has seating for up to 18 passengers and can fly for over 5 hours at maximum fuel loading. The 202 Squadron RAF SAR Sea King helicopter is routinely operated with the aid of Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and is also capable of carrying out an internal radar letdown and flying an automatic transition to the 50ft hover in fog or at night over the water. The primary role of RAF search and rescue is the recovery of downed military aviators, but in peacetime its aircraft are available all year round for use in civilian distress incidents. Indeed, since 1973, over 95% of the rescues carried out by 202 Squadron have been civilian incidents. In 2001 D Flt marked its 5000th rescue. This was the recovery of a fallen climber in the Highlands of Scotland who had suffered a dislocated shoulder. It was one of 5 rescues that D Flt had been tasked with on that particular day. The rescues carried out over the years by 202 Squadron have included a wide variety of incidents involving rescuing casualties from: aircraft, fishing trawlers, ferries, oil rigs, mountainous terrain, cliffs and the waters surrounding Scotland.

National Flag of Libya (1951-1969)
Al-Mamlaka Al-Libya Al-Motahidda (The United Kingdom of Libya) achieved its independance on December 24, 1951. Libya, led by King Idris, consisted of three states (represented by the three bars on the flag): Tripolitania (Tarablus) with its capital, Tripoli; Cerinaica (Barka) with its capital, Benghazi; Fezzan (Fazzan) with its capital, Sabha. The crescent and star on the flag represents Islam, the principal religion of Libya.
Many flags have flown over Tripoli. The flags on this page are some of them.

Although I only lived in Libya for three years (1955-58), I have always had a warm place in my heart for Libya and its people. My father, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force at the time, was stationed with the 7272d Food Service Squadron at Wheelus Air Base , outside Tripoli. He was a cook at the NCO messhall, and my mother was a Gray Lady at the base hospital. I attended the third, fourth and fifth grades at the Wheelus Dependents' School. During the first half of dad's tour we lived on Sh. Mizran in downtown Tripoli. During the second half of his tour we lived in the base trailer park.
I am a writer and live in North Carolina, USA. I have published two novels (
