Start research in the 4-college online library catalog (for Amherst, Hampshire, Mt. Holyoke and Smith) from the Library's homepage; there is a separate UMass catalog . You can search in the library catalogs by AUTHOR , by SUBJECT , by TITLE , or by KEYWORD . The SUBJECT choice requires the exact word or phrase chosen by libraries to define your topic. For example, the library catalog now characterizes Americans of African descent as "African Americans", and "African American Oral Tradition" is one precise and potentially useful subject heading . Personal names can always be subjects. But remember that a name is always listed last name first for author and subject searches: "hurston zora neale" not "zora neale hurston". If official subject terminology is hard to guess, just try keywords. Once you have found books on your topic, you can click on the subject links and move right into a subject search.

    Introduction
To locate the text (the script) of a play, begin by searching the online and card catalogs under either the playwright's name or the title of the play. If Duke University Library does not have a copy of the play in separate form, use the following indexes to find anthologies, collections, or periodicals in which the play script may appear. After identifying a collection in which the play appears, check the catalogs to determine whether Duke has the book or periodical in which the play is located.Should the text of a play be unavailable in the Duke collection in any format, consult the Reference Department to determine if the play is available at another library.
Bear in mind that the following books are for use in finding play scripts. Other indexes including MLA International Bibliography and Literature Online (LION) are more appropriate for finding criticism.
