About The Rogue Librarian
I work for The New York Public Library, where I am The Digital Library's Assistant Director for Digital Information and System Design. We are doing many fine things, but currently my main concern is the African American Migration Experience . This project will be a series of twelve sites, each based on a phase of African American migration. Content will be drawn from the manuscript, photograph, object, monograph and multimedia holdings of The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture From the fall of 1999 until the Spring of 2002, I was The Branch Libraries ' Web Coordinator. The best known project from this stint is probably the NYPL Online Style Guide , which shows how to author web sites in valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional and Cascading Style Sheets, co-written with Jeffrey Zeldman of The Web Standards Project. Most of my work in the Branch Libraries was done in collaboration with Catherine Jones , our Web Editorial Coordinator. We worked as a team or with consultants to build CHOICES in Health Information Click on @ the library , and "On-Lion" for Kids

Following the election, State Rep. Tyrone Brooks of Atlanta introduced legislation to end cross-party voting. He argued it was unethical to have Republicans provide the margin of victory in a Democratic race. Despite her defeat (perhaps because of it), McKinney, 49, has become even more popular among African-Americans and progressives in her district and beyond. Many now consider her a heroic figure, and revelations in the 9/11 hearings make her previous comments prophetic. The Green Party even mounted an attempt to draft her as its presidential candidate, an offer McKinney reportedly was considering. Author Bio-Salim Muwakkil is a senior editor of In These Times, where he has worked since 1983, and an op-ed columnist for the Chicago Tribune. He is currently a Crime and Communities Media Fellow of the Open Society Institute, examining the impact of ex-inmates and gang leaders in leadership positions in the black community.

ChickenBones: A Journal Home Amiri Baraka (Leroi Jones) Poet, Dramatist, Music Critic A Brief Bio Amiri Baraka was born in 1934, in Newark, New Jersey, USA. The author of over 40 books of essays, poems, drama, and music history and criticism, Baraka is a poet icon and revolutionary political activist who has recited poetry and lectured on cultural and political issues extensively in the USA, the Caribbean, Africa and Europe. With influences on his work ranging from musical orishas such as Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Theophilus Monk, and Sun Ra to the Cuban Revolution, Malcolm X and world revolutionary movements, Baraka is renown as the founder of the Black Arts Movement in Harlem in the 1960s that became, though short-lived, the virtual blueprint for a new American theater aesthetics. The movement and his published and performance work, such as the signature study on African-American music, Blues People (1963) and the play Dutchman (1963) practically seeded “the cultural corollary to black nationalism” of that revolutionary American milieu.
