ATHLETICS ARTS EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Athletics is an integral part of a student's Middle School experience. Each child is required to participate in the athletic program, which consists of team membership at appropriate skill levels. The program stresses teamwork, self-discipline and good sportsmanship while emphasizing continued skill development. This philosophy serves as an effective bridge to the Upper School athletic program.

ATHLETICS ARTS STUDENT LIFE ... COLLEGE COUNSELING The Athletic Program at KLHT is an integral part of every student's experience at the school. The Athletic Department offers a broad-based program designed to serve as a complement to the rigorous academic program. The range of offerings provides students with the opportunity to compete athletically in varsity and junior varsity team sports, and to participate in a non-competitive environment through fitness and recreational activities.
KLHT is a member of the Fairchester Athletic Association, comprised of independent schools in Fairfield County, CT, and Westchester County, NY, and of the Western New England Preparatory School Association.
Because we are committed to the many benefits that stem from a quality athletics and fitness program, all KLHT students are required to participate in athletics. Every Upper School student plays a team sport in the fall and then must select another of the department's offerings for the winter or spring term. For the student who may not have a strong interest in team sports, several non-team options are available, such as strength training and aerobics in the winter and personal fitness in the spring. A student who is actively competing in an athletic endeavor outside of school may apply to the Athletic Director for exemption from the participation requirement. Typically, students who receive an exemption must still participate in one season of a school athletic activity. Exemptions are not automatic.

For many years the Harker Middle School athletic program has been recognized as one of the most successful sports programs in the Bay Area. A great many sports and teams are offered in grades four through eight with an emphasis on skill development, character building and competitive challenges. Thus Harker offers a sport and a level appropriate for all skill levels. Beginning in the 4th grade, students can participate in volleyball, flag football, soccer, basketball, swimming and softball. Once in 6th grade, teams are grouped by skill level, and Harker's "no cut" policy guarantees playing time for everybody. In Middle School tennis is added to the sports' choices available to students. It is possible for a student to participate in up to five different sports in a single school year. Practices are held daily after school, and in some sports, such as basketball, up to 17 teams can be in action. Harker hosts tournaments in both volleyball and basketball and holds an annual 8th grade basketball invitational which fields some great action! The Eagle athletes compete with both public and private schools in the South Bay area. Upon matriculating to the Harker Upper School, student athletes are offered numerous competitive and non-competitive sports and physical education programs.

48. Phillips Exeter Summer School - Programs - Athletics
athletics is an important part of the summer experience that classes in the following sports in the Summer school aerobics, Basketball, Beginning Golf, Crew.
http://www.exeter.edu/summer/programs/athletics.htm
The Exeter campus features a complex of athletic facilities that accommodate a wide range of sports. Facilities include five basketball courts, two swimming pools, 15 squash courts, and a well-equipped weight training room. Also available are a 1/10-mile indoor track, a dance studio, and a wrestling room. You have access as well to over 300 acres of school grounds for outdoor sports. Among outdoor facilities are a 400-meter all-weather track, 23 clay and all-weather tennis courts, cross-country trails, five baseball and softball diamonds, and a number of fields for football, field hockey, lacrosse, and soccer.
A summer student from a Navajo reservation in Arizona said, "Where I come from squash is a noun or a verb, not a sport." At Exeter he was able to try sports he had never seen played before and to enjoy the camaraderie of competing on a team. Athletics is an important part of the summer experience that enables you to meet people outside your dorms and classes. We offer more than 15 different sports in two sessions, allowing you to sign up for two sports in the course of the summer. Physical education classes meet four times a week in the afternoon and are required for all residential students.
In many sports, we group students by skill level. This approach allows beginners to learn together and more advanced players to play against each other. You have regular opportunities to compete against teams organized among players in your sport. Our physical education teachers are professionals, many of whom teach at Exeter during the year. They provide expert instruction in their sports along with encouragement and support. We urge all students to take advantage of the opportunity to try a new sport during summer school.

Sport is an important part of the Rangi Ruru experience. Girls have the opportunity to participate and excel in many sporting codes under the guidance and mentorship of around 130 sports coaches.
Our experience, and education research, convinces us that there is a vital link between academic success, and emotional and physical well-being. Many studies show that active engagement in sports and fitness programs clearly provides both physical and psychological benefits that support academic achievement as well as livelong benefit in healthy lifestyles.
The school is represented at many interschool, national and international competitions. A significant proportion of Rangi girls go on to represent their region and country in their chosen sport.
Sport Codes
Rangi Ruru offers many sporting opportunities to cater for the varied interests of students. These are represented at most levels and include:

Specialty spaces like sports facilities require significant planning and programming because of the amount of usage and variety of activities they support. These sports facilities provide athletic and activity space for both students and the community and are often operating seven days a week. It is critical to have the input of school representatives, students and members of the community. Questions about which activities will take place, what event support spaces are required, hours of operation and community use need to be answered. DRA's strength is in our ability to collect this type of information and make sure all options and ideas are addressed, including those of cost. Our knowledge of safety requirements, standard dimensions and height restrictions, along with our understanding of the acoustical, lighting, environmental control, flooring and management consideration allow us to develop the best solution for the school and community.

    Introduction
A coaching career engages people in a profession which helps young people develop their physical and mental abilities through sports and games in voluntary athletic programs. Athletic programs, whether located in schools, community recreation centers, YMCA’s, or private sports organizations, help individuals become leaders of tomorrow and achieve success through teamwork to become the best they can be.
    Curriculum Overview
    The minor focuses on:
  • Medical aspects of coaching
  • Practicum in athletic coaching
  • Theoretical and technical aspects of coaching.
  • Human growth and development
  • Psycho-social aspects of coaching
Benefits of UWSP In completing the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction‘s approved program in coaching, one will have completed all competencies necessary for coaching athletic teams in public and parochial schools. Job opportunities for coaches in Wisconsin are far greater than what can be satisfied by certified teacher/coaches. Thus, the coaching minor is an excellent choice for students in non-teaching fields as well as future teachers. Indoor facilities are located in the Health Enhancement Center (HEC) and feature the following: Quandt and Berg gymnasiums; a multi-activity center featuring tennis courts, a 200 meter indoor track, archery range, and 2800 sq. ft. climbing wall; aquatic center featuring an Olympic sized pool, a 14 1/2 ft. deep diving well, and therapeutic warm water pool; dance studios; wrestling gym; a 3000 sq. ft. strength/fitness center featuring Olympic free weights, Hammer Strength equipment, cardio theatre, and cardio-respiratory equipment; a 2000 sq. ft. cardio center featuring cardio theatre, aerobics room, cardio-respiratory equipment, massage therapy, Nautilus equipment; and four classrooms. Outdoor facilities include softball, football, baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts and 400 meter track. Jogging and hiking trails are available in Schmeeckle Reserve on campus.
