The NAHF Program
The NAHF is a professional program that upon completion certifies students as . A Health and Fitness Specialist is an individual who is specialized in all areas of fitness and health. How the Program Works
After completing each chapter, the student will complete the corresponding chapter test. Once all the chapter tests have been completed, send the booklet of tests back to NAHF for grading. The final exam is divided into two sections: section one consists of; true and false, fill in the blank, and multiple choice. The second section of the exam consists of 4 sample clients for which the student will develop programs for. What You Will Receive
Upon registration and payment 1, or full payment, you will receive the NAHF Manual, NAHF Demonstration Manual, professional forms and books of tests. When the student who has chosen option 2 pays in full or after the third payment you will receive: nutrition disc and manual, "Focus on Form" video, fat caliper, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, tape measure, start up packet of Professional Trainer forms, registration card, resume packet with referral letter, will be issued.

Group Exercise A detailed Class Schedule is available at the Member Service Desk. All Fitness Classes are FREE TO YMCA MEMBERS!! We offer multi-level classes where instructors can challenge both the "fit" members and encourage the "novice" exercisers. We offer a friendly atmosphere with a personalized approach. All classes are 55 minutes long unless otherwise noted, and begin with a 5 - 10 minute format specific warm-up and 5 - 10 minute cool down and final stretch. Health and fitness maintenance requires 3 cardiovascular, 2 flexibility and one strength training workout weekly. To improve any one component of fitness, additional workouts specific to that component are required. Classes will meet in the Fitness Studio unless otherwise indicated. Class Descriptions Aerobic Classes AOA (Active Older Adult - 50+) Group Exercise: Advanced aerobic and resistance conditioning components are taught in this class for the older active adult. Basic Fitness / Intermediate Fitness: Learn and enhance basic skills and techniques with varying intensities to challenge the beginning and intermediate fitness participant. 25 - 30 minutes of cardio activity and 10 - 15 minutes of toning and abdominal work.

    Aerobic exercise uses large muscle groups rhythmically and continuously and elevates the heartrate and breathing for a sustained period. Common examples include walking, jogging/running, swimming, rowing, stairclimbing, bicycling, cross-country skiing, step and dance exercise classes, roller skating, and the more continuous forms of tennis, racquetball and squash. Care and consideration should be used in selecting types (modes) of aerobic exercise. Depending on your goals, physical condition and injury/illness history, different types may prove to be preferential for your particular situation. However, in general, it is a good idea to "cross train". i.e., alternate between and among several appropriate exercises. This strategy reduces the chances of overuse injuries, imposes a more balanced conditioning stimulus and may enhance enjoyment. Specifically, it is important to alternate forms of high impact exercises (running, dance exercise, tennis, racquetball, squash) with low/moderate impact aerobic exercises (walking, swimming, stairclimbing, step classes, rowing, cross-country skiing). Prudent advice is no more than every-other-day for high-impact activities; perhaps less if you are overweight, deconditioned or you have an injury history or current problems with feet, ankles, knees, hips or low back.

The classes are set to music, and it's the instructor's job to present imaginary scenery, lead riders through the course and keep them motivated during the heart-pounding session.
    Each specially designed bike has an adjustable resistance knob to provide a comfortable challenge to all cyclists, from beginners to the most advanced. There are also a variety of classes, such as endurance, interval, strength, and race, designed to meet different goals. Since it takes time to get used to the bike and to being in the "saddle" (as the seat is called, Figueroa advises that new participants attend at least three classes before making up their minds about continuing with Spinning.
    Leigh Fazzina, a certified Johhny G Spinning Instructor in Philadelphia, says it can take up to four weeks to feel comfortable. "One must start slow and build up," she says. "Spinning can be very challenging, so one will want to start with what is referred to as an 'Intro Class'…that welcomes the newcomer to the activity and teaches the basics such as bike set-up, the three hand positions and the five movements."
