Creating Our Own Action Game
Teacher Resource Page
Learning Objectives: To create an enjoyable action game. To make a computer report about the process we went through to create the game. Planning Timeline: Because of other physical education curricular needs, this project will take about 2-3 months. We will take at least 5 minutes every class to update progress and 15 to 30 minutes to learn new games and develop our action game. The physical education class meets two times per week for 1/2 hour. Homework and the classroom teacher provides some time for assignments and support for internet work on the classroom computer. If necessary, I will take children to the computer lab after school.
  • Working on the final reports. Teaching the game to another class. 2-4 weeks
Materials and Resources Required: Until the game is created, the exact equipment and materials needed for the game is not known.
  • Standard elementary school physical education equipment and/or materials easily made Computer in the physical education area and in the target class' homeroom SoftwareClarisWorks, ClarisWorks for Kids, HyperStudio

The Compost Learning Guide: Stan Slaughter 888/484-4477 www.stanslaughter.com back to home page Lesson #2 The Banana Breakdown The aim of the Banana Breakdown is to have students experience the decomposition of an easily composted material. This basic experience will lead them into more activities in this field. Banana peels are readily compostable. Such food scraps represent about 7% of the trash stream in many locations. In general, food scraps decompose readily and they provide the high nitrogen levels we need to compost large amounts of leaves. When disposed of in a landfill, food scraps are among the first materials to decompose, adding to methane production. Decomposition is performed mostly by bacteria. By performing the activities we suggest, students can begin to understand the conditions bacteria need to do their work. Vocabulary Aerobic (eh-ROH-bik) A process, like breathing, that requires oxygen. Go to Compost Gin page- a great way to learn about the browns and greens! Anaerobic (AN-eh-roh-bik) A process that proceeds in the relative absence of oxygen.

K-12 Physical Education Curriculum The following information has been set up by Central Washington University students of 2000-2001 to devise an effective curriculum for teaching K-12 physical education. Our challenge is to meet the needs of so many individuals, satisfy state requirements, and provide a variety of activities in a developmentally appropriate and timely fashion. We encourage those who use this resource to assist in organizing your curriculum, to gain options with different ideas, as well as a compilation of assessment materials. Of course, this curriculum will not be the last set of activities one would ever need for the next 20 years of teaching. But it is an excellent start. Many resources such as the list of skills and concepts come from George Graham's (1998) Children Moving.

Program Learning Outcomes
Instructional time provides a description of the activities and the amount of time used to complete our outcomes at each grade as well at when assessment will take place. Our program emphasis displays both our activities and the total time our three primary areas represent when viewing the elementary curriculum from kindergarten through the fifth grade. After elementary school, the focus goes on to exposing middle school students to many activities then refining skills in areas of interest in the high school. Our program content has been given to provide both general and specifics of our outcomes. Each subject area's specifics can be reached by clicking on the titles.
