General Information
I
nner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU), the earliest institution of higher learning established on the decision of the Party and the state in the border and minority areas, was first founded with the name of Inner Mongolia Normal College on May 5, 1952 in Ulanhot, which was the former capital city of the Inner Mongolian autonomous region. In 1954, IMNU was moved to Hohhot, the current capital city of the region. 1982 saw its original name-Inner Mongolia Normal College being changed into Inner Mongolia Normal University. M eanwhile, it was listed as the key university at the regional level. It merged with the former Inner Mongolia Normal Educational College in 2000, and therefore, the new IMNU has been come into being since then.
Up to now, IMNU has developed into a comprehensive Normal university with distinguishing regional and national characteristics under the guidance of privileged policy for the minority groups, under the correct leadership of the regional Party Committee and the government and the support from the society as well. So far, it has cultivated more than 60£¬000 elite Normal, administrators at different levels and capable scientific and technological personnel who are from multi-nationality background.

During the 30 years of its existence, the curriculum has evolved from a traditional format consisting of 10 courses to one that is experiential, individualized and personalized. One of the degree requirements is a thesis, that focuses either on personal learning, an educational project/study, or a combination of both. The master's program provides a suitable learning experience for persons who are professional educators. To date the Department boasts almost 400 graduates, who work in a wide variety of careers such as literacy, adult basic education, vocational education, human resources training, community development, nursing, nutrition, and educational technology. They represent every province and territory in Canada. A small number come from other countries like the United States, England, Hong Kong, India, and Egypt.

Elmira College developed an advanced graduate certificate in the Training of Trainers in 1979 and a Master of Science in Adult Education in 1982. The developed an off-site Master of Science in Adult Education in Liverpool that began in September, 1997. In the Masters program, students can earn the degree part-time in two years primarily through weekend courses,Saturday-only courses, late afternoon or evening courses, concentrated summer courses, or a combination of the various formats. The Training the Trainer graduate certificate also is available either as a stand-alone program or as part of the masters degree experience. Classes are held primarily on the Elmira College campus or at the Career Training Center (OCM-BOCES), 4500 Crown Road, Liverpool, NY [ click here for OCM-BOCES course and other information ]. Occasionally courses are held at other sites (see the schedule for each term for exact location details). For the purposes of the Reading Research Working Group , "adult reading instruction research" is defined as research related to reading instruction for low-literate adults, aged 16 and older, who are no longer being served in secondary education programs. This includes low-literate adults in community-based literacy centers, family literacy programs, prison literacy programs, workplace literacy programs, and two-year colleges. It includes research related to all low-literate adults in these settings, including adults in ASE (Adult Secondary Education) programs, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programs, and adults with a learning or reading disability.
