Our Fellowship
We are one of 55 Canadian Unitarian congregations, and one of seven in the Greater Toronto Area. We meet weekly at 55 St. Phillips Road in Etobicoke, in a Tudor-style stone house that is readily accessible by public transportation.
Regular Sunday Services
are held at 10:30am from September through June. We offer a variety of programs and activities through the year including adult discussion groups, orientation workshops, potluck dinners, and music appreciation get-togethers. Summer social events have included games nights, brunches and barbeques.
Our Purpose
"The purpose of this Fellowship shall be to bring religious liberals into closer relationship with one another, and to unite them in the quest for the highest values in religion and in life. Members of this organization, while free to hold diverse beliefs concerning the nature of God, people and the universe are committed to the preservation of personal integrity, to the continuing search for truth through critical inquiry, and to the obligation to work for the greater good of all humanity." 110. Dyslexia Research Institute
Woodland Hall Academy, Tallahassee, Florida organization providing diagnostic testing, academic and tutorial programs, advocacy and adult education.
http://www.dyslexia-add.org/
Since 1975, the goal of the Dyslexia Research Institute, Inc. has been to change the perception of learning differences, specifically in the area of dyslexia and attention deficit disorders (ADD). With proper recognition and intervention, dyslexics and individuals with ADD become successful individuals using their talents and skills to enrich our society. They may take their place alongside other dyslexics/ADDs, such as Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and Nelson Rockefeller. Ten to fifteen percent of the US population has dyslexia, yet only five out of every one hundred dyslexics are recognized and receive assistance. Approximately 60% of individuals diagnosed with attention deficit disorders are also dyslexic, however, their learning and language differences are often unrecognized because only the behavioral aspects of ADD are addressed. Without the proper diagnosis and help, many of these dyslexics and ADD individuals are only functionally literate, and are part of the forty-four million adults with only the lowest level of literacy. This limits their ability to find jobs and function independently within their communities. The Dyslexia Research Institute mission is to change these statistics by providing appropriate identification and training.

Significant Points
  • Many adult literacy and remedial and self-enrichment teachers work part time and receive no benefits; unpaid volunteers also teach these subjects.
  • Opportunities for teachers of English as a second language are expected to be very good, due to the expected increase in the number of residents with limited English skills who seek classes.
  • Demand for self-enrichment courses is expected to rise with growing numbers of people who embrace lifelong learning and of retirees who have more free time to take classes.
Nature of the Work About this section Back to Top Self-enrichment teachers teach courses that students take for pleasure or personal enrichment; these classes are not usually intended to lead to a particular degree or vocation. Self-enrichment teachers may instruct children or adults in a wide variety of areas, such as cooking, dancing, creative writing, photography, or personal finance. In contrast, adult literacy and remedial education teachers remedial or adult basic education (ABE) , which is geared toward adults whose skills are either at or below an eighth-grade level;
