Alternative Therapies Acupressure
Acupressure is the ancient Chinese healing art of using applied pressure on specific points on the body to relieve common ailments and discomfort. Acupressure is based on the same concept of meridians and acupoints as acupuncture, but fingertip pressure is used rather than needles. The aim is also the same, to balance the flow of energy or qi within the meridians, creating healthy functioning of the internal organs and preventing or curing disease. During treatment, the practitioner determines the correct points to use in relation to the ailment(s) and then places gentle pressure on the area(s) using the tips of the index or middle fingers, or the thumb, or the edge of the fingernail. The pressure must be even and is most often applied in the direction of the flow of the meridian. Small rotations may accompany the pressure and depending on the condition, the effects may be felt immediately (as in the case of blocked sinuses). Some conditions which acupressure can treat are:

    Acupuncture - Acupressure
    Fact - Fad - Fallacy
Dr. Metz's Slim World of Sandals
Mr. Cheese says we have a serious problem. Over the years business people, not doctors, have stated unequivocally that certain products will rid the world of disease, or relieve suffering. There is a problem here, and it's with the advertising media that goes along with these claims, because the more people they convince to believe in those claims, the more money they will make. No matter how ridiculous the claims, people out there will still believe them. Imagine the sudden appearance of certain obesity product like this link for a wristband marketed by Lifestyle Fascination - $69.95 U.S.... or is it $79.95? Since the item can be purchased anywhere in the world, including Canada, why would the company marketing the device protest criticism of it up here in the "land of the free and the home of the fat and gullible". Could it be that they have to protect their interests, and the interests of the television network that supported them with a nationwide blitz on July 30, 1998? I can no longer name the device, nor can I point my site to any place on this planet where there is the slightest chance that someone else might have an opinion about the particular product. I can't even describe it because I am presently involved in legal proceedings because I said the naughty words on my web page that the advertising for the product was a scam.

    Definition
Acupressure is a form of touch therapy that utilizes the principles of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. In acupressure, the same points on the body are used as in acupuncture, but are stimulated with finger pressure instead of with the insertion of needles. Acupressure is used to relieve a variety of symptoms and pain
    Purpose
Acupressure massage performed by a therapist can be very effective both as prevention and as a treatment for many health conditions, including headaches, general aches and pains, colds and flu, arthritis, allergies asthma , nervous tension, menstrual cramps, sinus problems, sprains, tennis elbow , and toothaches, among others. Unlike acupuncture which requires a visit to a professional, acupressure can be performed by a layperson. Acupressure techniques are fairly easy to learn, and have been used to provide quick, cost-free, and effective relief from many symptoms. Acupressure points can also be stimulated to increase energy and feelings of well-being, reduce

WHAT IS ACUPRESSURE? Excerpt from Acupressure's Potent Points
website www.acupressure.com Home The information on this website is not a substitute for diagnosis and treatment by a qualified, licensed professional. Article provided by: Acupressure Institute Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle but firm pressure of hands (and even feet). There is a massive amount of scientific data that demonstrates why and how acupuncture is effective. But acupressure, the older of the two traditions, was neglected after the Chinese developed more technological methods for stimulating points with needles and electricity. Acupressure, however, continues to be the most effective method for self-treatment of tension-related ailments by using the power and sensitivity of the human hand. Foremost among the advantages of acupressure's healing touch is that it is safe to do on yourself and others - even if you've never done it before - so long as you follow the instructions and pay attention to the cautions. There are no side effects from drugs, because there are no drugs. And the only equipment needed are your own two hands. You can practice acupressure therapy any time, anywhere.

B elieve it or not, your fingers can be vital tools in your war against extra weight. By means of Japanese acupressure, the finger pressure method, you can shed up to seven pounds a week. Although this sounds too good to be true, it's not. After learning this simple, drug-free method of hunger reduction, you'll be able to eat what you like. And you'll lose weight because you'll find you don't want to eat huge amounts any more. The basis of acupressure is that there are key points on your body which are in direct relation to the hunger center of your brain. By simply massaging these points with your fingertips when you get the binging urge, you'll stop these urges from reaching your brain. The key pressure point for dulling appetite is midway between your upper lip and nose. Before each meal, place thumb inside lip and index finger outside lip and massage 10 seconds. Apply moderate pressure; massage the pressure point up and down. If you find your appetite perks up when you are under a great deal of stress or perhaps when you're depressed, you will need to learn a couple of other acupressure techniques.

    Definition
Acupressure is a type of Oriental healing art based on ancient Japanese and Chinese medicine. A practitioner puts pressure on specific points on the body with his or her fingers in order to relieve pain and discomfort, prevent tension-related ailments, and promote good health. Purpose
The purpose of acupressure is to promote the body's own healing power. When key acupressure points on the surface of the skin are pressed, muscular tension is released, and the circulation of blood and the body's vital life energy, which the Chinese call chi , is promoted. Acupressure can be used to treat numerous conditions. Among them are effects of daily stress headaches , neck and shoulder pain, aches and pains, allergies , menstrual difficulties, fatigue, anxiety insomnia , digestive problems, nausea, and back pain. Precautions
Acupressure should not be used for certain conditions that require medical care, such as serious burns , ulcers, or infections. Caution should be taken with the use of abdominal pressure points, especially when the patient is ill. The abdominal area often is avoided when the patient has a life-threatening illness, such as intestinal
