ABN Cataloguing Manual: Part F Miscellaneous
Part F.1: Filing rules in the ABN catalogues
Introduction Filing rules used in the indexes to the ABN Catalogues are based on the Library of Congress filing rules. Users should refer to these rules for a full understanding of the ABN Catalogue filing sequence. However, exceptions to these rules have been made for the filing of the ampersand and roman numerals in titles. These exceptions are detailed within the brief summary of ABN filing which appears below. Entries in the indexes are filed alphabetically word by word, and words are arranged character by character. A word is one or more characters set off by spaces. A word does not have to be pronounceable. Initial articles are ignored in filing, e.g. 1 x 1 equal 1 (l is a word) The AAAS science book list for children (AAAS is a word) EQMM annual (EQMM is a word) Equal justice (Equal is a word) The IQ cult (IQ is a word) Ira sleeps over (Ira is a word) The UFO experience (UFO is a word) Punctuation
An apostrophe is ignored in filing. Elided words, possessives and other words with apostrophes are arranged as one word, e.g.

  • How can I do something automatically when I log on?
If you make an alias called login then the contents of this alias will be executed automatically when you log on. Please do not abuse this feature by shouting or chatting things when you log on.
  • It tells me I am passed out and can't do anything, so what do I do?
Sit back and relax. You are "unconscious" in game terms, typically by getting a halfbrick in a sock to the back of the head or drinking the wrong potion. It will clear up reasonably quickly. This is also a favourite way for the management to deal with obnoxious characters. If you violate the rules of Nan, e.g. spamming channels, swearing on public channels, harassing people etc etc, then you might find yourself passed out for a LONG time. Or banned for a LONG time. Or deleted. Or ...
  • I was killing a monster and someone else came in, killed it and took the gear, is that allowed?
Sure. As in everything else, early bird gets the worm. Most people are reasonably friendly though, so just ask them and you're likely to get at least some of the loot back. I'm sure some people have triggers in their clients that automatically gets everything from every corpse in a room they enter so they might not even notice it's your kill.

    MISCELLANEOUS HUMOUR.
These pages have been collected over the years from various places on the Internet and from individual people. It is mainly Miscellaneous humour but with some DOS and computer jokes included. WARNING - Some items include Adult themes and language. IN THE BEGINNING. 1. In the beginning GOD created the Bit and the Byte. And from those he created the Word. 2. And there were two Bytes in the Word; and nothing else existed. And God separated the One from the Zero; and he saw it was good. 3. And God said 'Let the Data be'. And so it happened. And God said 'Let the Data go to their proper places'. And he created floppy disks and hard disks and compact disks. 4. And God said 'Let the computers be', so there would be a place to put floppy disks and hard disks and compact disks. Thus God created computers and called them hardware. 5. And there was no Software yet. But God created programs; small and big... And told them - 'Go and multiply yourselves and fill all the Memory'. 6. And God said 'I will create the Programmer; And the Programmer will make new programs and govern over the Computers and Programs and Data'. 7. And God created the Programmer; and put him at Data Center; And God showed the Programmer the Catalog Tree and said 'You can use all the volumes and sub-volumes but DO NOT USE Windows'.
