STARTING A QUIZ BOWL TEAM This page is meant as a step-by-step primer on how to start up a quiz bowl team, although most of its steps can be used for any organization. Feel free to distribute this to anyone that you choose, just please do not pass it off as your own work. If you have any comments, please email us
    • Learn about the game
Your goal here is to know enough about how the game is played in college so that you can talk to college administrators and potential club members and sound confident. Start by reading the Quiz Bowl FAQ Look at a few old rounds from the Stanford Packet Archive
Go to your student activities office
Almost every college or university has an office specifically designated to organize most student groups (the school paper, the debate team, the karate club, the international students association, etc.). Find out where it is and go there. Tell them that you're interested in forming a new student organization and find out what is needed (minimum number of members, a constitution, etc.). Write everything that you need down.
      Get people interested
There are two ways to do this.

Teams are welcome to participate in the Regional Academic competition whether or not they are interested in representing the region at the National competition, however dual-competitors will be given top priority for 8 slots in both competitions.
The Academic (question and answer) competition will use a round robin format for the preliminary rounds and a double elimination format for the final rounds. During the round robin format, each team will play every other team in its bracket. There will be no tie-break questions during the round robin matches. Welcome
to Vermont's oldest web site dedicated entirely to competitive academia and one of the top-rated High School Quiz Bowl web sites in the country. This web page is designed to increase exposure of the Burlington High School Scholars' Bowl Seahorses (yes, that's right, the Seahorses). We are:
    • The 2001 PANASONIC ACADEMIC CHALLENGE FOURTH-PLACE TEAM The 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001 Vt.-NEA Scholars' Bowl State Champions
Our final 2002-2003 record is after losing in the octofinal round of the Vermont State Tournament LATEST: A slow start to the final round of a Vermont State Tournament octofinal against Burr and Burton on March 22, 2003 has the Seahorses somewhere they haven't been in seven years home for the semifinals. The Bulldogs opened the last nine minutes on a 115-35 lead to turn a 20-point deficit into a 60-point lead and hung on to defeat BHS 225-205 victory. With the loss, Burlington falls short of the state tournament semifinals for the first time in since 1995-96. The Seahorses will conclude their season in the Spring Knowledge Master Open sometime in early April.
