My Sifu is Sifu Wu Kwong-yu of Toronto, Canada. He is the oldest son on the late master Wu Ta-kuei, who was the oldest son of the late master Wu Kung-yi, who was the oldest son of the late master Wu Chien-ch'uan, who was the oldest son of the late master Wu Ch'uan-yu. Master Wu Ch'uan-yu was a disciple of the late master Yang Pan-hou, but his first T'ai Chi Ch'uan teacher was the late master Yang Lu-ch'an, called "The Invincible," who was master Yang Pan-hou's father.
There should be a link to the Toronto website on the Hong Kong website that I gave you earlier. There are a few translated chapters from the 'Gold Book' (from the late master Wu Kung-tsao's commentary on the Founder's 40 chapters, master Wu Kung-tsao was master Wu Kung-yi's younger brother) on the Toronto site, as well as some nice pictures and an historical essay.
    Cheers!

I find Wile's books interesting generally (much as I find Deng Ming-dao's books) for their context (except for the sensationalist sex meditation secrets book he is flogging) because I believe that his translation skills are adequate for most purposes. But after reading his recent commentaries in the 'Lost Secrets' book, especially his speculations as to why the former masters wanted to do T'ai Chi Ch'uan in the first place, I can see that Wile doesn't understand T'ai Chi Ch'uan itself well enough to effectively translate the spirit of the texts in question. In other words, he seemingly has no actual idea himself, technically, how TCC would affect the lives of its highly skilled practitioners, why it was so important to the Ch'en, Yang, Wu Yu-hsiang and Wu Chien-ch'uan families to learn, develop and transmit the art. Instead, Wile engages in a lot of fruitless, unsubstantited speculation as to how they must have felt emasculated by foreigners!
To turn his own methods back on him, his own apparent ignorance of the higher level benefits of the TCC regimen shows quite well the typically Western syndrome of overcompensating for an undeniably incomplete transmission from the former masters in one's own training. This is a syndrome which present-day disciples of the original TCC families, such as myself, are charged to remedy. There is no speculation in the information handed to us by the Wu family (and the others), just generations of experienced, practical certainty.

After a long period of peace and prosperity (over 400 years of the Han Dynasty), China unfortunately fell into turmoil. The country was split up into many small parts, continually at war with each other. This chaos lasted over 360 years, from the start of the Three kingdoms to the end of the Southern Dynasties. Three Kingdoms Many exciting plays and stories are written about the Three Kingdoms. These stories have a profound influence on Chinese culture and life. A quite few of Chinese popular slang originated from these stories. For example, people say, "when I’m talking about Tsao Tsao, Tsao Tsao is here”, that means “ the person whom I am talking about has just arrived”.

First, I'd like you to meet Hung Wu. It seems inappropriate to talk of him without an introduction. Chu Yuan-chang Founder and 1st Emperor of the Ming Dynasty Reign title Hung Wu Hongwu (translates to Vast Military) Posthumous name Tai-Tsu Taizu With the introduction now complete, let's get on with the specifics. It's easy to say a piece of porcelain is from the Ming dynasty reign of Hung Wu, but proving it is a bit more difficult. There is a lot of research to be done and, in a way, it's similar to putting together a picture puzzle. You start with researching all aspects of the physical properties of the piece. This only fills in about half the puzzle. Now you hit the books to link the piece to the period with which it belongs. If your research is done carefully and thoroughly, you will be reasonably sure of the origin. You would also think that because of the rarity of Hung Wu porcelain, it would be almost impossible to determine a genuine piece since there is so little to compare with. It's actually quite the contrary. A genuine piece will stand out if it displays the right characteristics. You have to become a sort of

There is an interesting article in the Autumn 2002 issue of the Qi Journal about the martial abilities of Wu Kung-yi and his oldest son, Wu Ta-kuei (who also slightly modified the training in his own turn, with his father's approval). The most telling bit in it was where Ch'en K'e-fu, the Tibetan White Crane stylist that Kung-yi had the challenge match with in January 1954, talks about how surprised he was that Kung-yi gave him so many bruises. Then he complimented Kung-yi's manners, saying that they eventually became friends. That kind of ability to end things well is all too rare these days.
    Cheers!
