    (born 29. 4. 1908)
Jack Williamson has possibly the longest career in sci-fi. He has been writing and commenting on science fiction for 70 years. Born and raised on isolated ranches in the American Southwest, he still lives on the family ranch near Portales, New Mexico. He is author of " The Humanoids Three From the Legion " (one of the best written space operas of the golden age), " Darker Than You Think SeeTee The Best of Jack Williamson " etc., etc... Jack Williamson was named a Grand Master at the 1976 Nebula awards and given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Convention in 1994.
Jack Williamson's extremely important work " The Legion of Time " (first published as a magazine serial in 1938) was a competent adventure novel in the sci-fi tradition that became the first really scientific concept of branching parallel worlds - later known as Many-Worlds interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. As a book it has been also published by Sphere, London 1977.

Vaguely I recalled magazine articles that I had read, upon the nature of space and time. A lecture. The subject had fascinated me, though I had only layman's knowledge of it.

Jack Williamson Jack Williamson has been in the forefront of science fiction since his first published story appeared in 1928. Now in his seventy-third year as a published author, Williamson is the acclaimed author of such trailblazing science fiction as The Humanoids and The Legion of Time. The Oxford English Dictionary credits Williamson with inventing the terms genetic engineering (in Dragon's Island ) and terraforming (in Seetee Ship ). His novel Darker than You Think was a seminal work of fiction dealing with shape-changing, and still ranks as a great achievement in horror. This and other horror works garnered Williamson a Bram Stoker Award for Life Achievement. He was the second science fiction author (after Robert A. Heinlein) to be named Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America. His recent works include The Silicon Dagger and The Black Sun. Williamson also has been active academically. A pioneer in the field of teaching science fiction as part of a university curriculum, Williamson has taught since the 1950s and is professor emeritus at Eastern New Mexico University. He lives and works in Portales, New Mexico. Notify me when new books by Jack Williamson are released.

W ill Barbee is a journalist waiting at an airport for the arrival of a group of explorers. However, this is no ordinary assignment, he was kicked off of this team with no explanation several years ago. Matters are further complicated by the arrival of a rival reporter, April Bell, who seems to be the catalyst for the death of the party of explorers and for Will's battle with himself. As he struggles with nightmares and the search for the Child of the Night, the slow dawning of who he actually is leads Will down a dark spiral of evil and destruction As readers, we travel a similar spiral. The novel starts off at a leisurely pace but slowly and inexorably, the tension of the novel builds up to a fantastic, explosive and unusual ending. The style and characterisation of the novel contributed to this leisured start. Williamson wrote this novel in 1948 and I found it quite hard at first to connect with the way that the novel is written. However, the fast pace of the novel sweeps away any reservations and coldness towards the characters that I had and was soon immersed in the downfall of Will Barbee.

By Kathie Huddleston ack Williamson has been a storyteller for longer than most people have been alive. The 94-year-old Williamson may have started as a brash young man who wanted to try his hand at "scientifiction," but he's gone on to become one of the most revered science-fiction writers of all time. Born in 1908, Williamson traveled in a covered wagon to New Mexico, where he grew up on an isolated farm. He began his career in 1928, when he sold his first story, "The Metal Man," to the only "scientifiction" or science-fiction magazine that existed, Amazing Stories It's been 74 years of writing astounding fiction for Williamson. Some of his key works include the Legion of Space series, the Seetee series, the Humanoids series and the novels The Legion of Time and Darker Than You Think . Williamson might well have decided to slow down after his Grand Master Award in 1976, the second ever presented by the Science Fiction Writers of America. Instead, he has continued to publish compelling fiction, including the Hugo and Nebula award-winning novella "The Ultimate Earth" ( Analog Science Fiction and Fact , December 2000). Recent works include
