Professor's Profile: Rev. Rudy H. Wiebe
Although the Lord graciously called me to experience His saving grace when I was nine years old, it was in my third year of studying science at the University of Windsor, that the Lord restored me to fellowship with Himself after several years of spiritual doubts and wandering, and gave me a growing desire to know Him through His word and to do His will no matter what the cost might be. During two years of teaching High School science and also a young peoples Sunday School class, I became increasingly burdened about the spiritual welfare of both young people and my teacher colleagues. The need for a concentrated period of Biblical studies became increasingly evident, bringing my wife Marlene and I to TBS for the four year course. While in Seminary, we had the privilege of pastoring at Faith Baptist Church in Oakville. The duties of both church and school resulted in my dropping Hebrew after only three semesters but longing to study it more thoroughly. In my fourth year of pastoral ministry, the Lord especially spoke to me through a sermon I was preaching from 2 Timothy 2:1f. “You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” These verses prepared me for the call from Dr. Adams to see if I would be willing to pursue an M.A. in Biblical Hebrew at the University of Toronto so that I might assist in teaching Hebrew along with other subjects at TBS. By the marvellous grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, it has been my holy and happy privilege to serve Him here since 1975. May He receive all the glory.

Northwest Campaign
Fiction, Drama and Music
Just as the literature on Louis Riel overshadows all aspects of the Northwest Campaign, so does fiction and drama about Riel overwhelm, in sheer amount at least, all the rest. The exception is Rudy Wiebe's award-winning The temptations of Big Bear , considered by many to be among the truly outstanding works of Canadian literature. Coulter, John. - Riel : a play in two parts . - Hamilton, Ont. : Cromlech Press, 1972. - 142 p. - First published in Toronto : Ryerson Press, 1962. General Histories of the Campaign
There are a number of good general histories of the Northwest Campaign. Two stand out for their opposing emphases. Desmond Morton's The last war drum is an excellent general account with emphasis on the government response to insurrection and the militia's military campaign, while Bob Beal and Rod Macleod in Prairie fire The birth of western Canada . In War in the West , by Rudy Wiebe and Bob Beale, the compilers have used contemporary accounts, newspapers and pamphlets, along with a wealth of contemporary illustrations to catch the flavour of the Campaign. Beal, Bob; Macleod, Rod. - Prairie fire : the 1885 North-West Rebellion * Howard, Joseph Kinsey. - Strange empire : a narrative of the Northwest . - New York : Morrow, 1952. - 601 p. - Also published in French under the title: McLean, Don. - 1885 : Metis rebellion or government conspiracy? - [S.l.] : Pemmican Publications, 1985. - 137 p Morton, Desmond. -

80. Franklin Bibliography
wiebe, rudy. A Discovery of Strangers. Toronto Alfred A. Knopf Canada,1994. wiebe takes a novelist s look at Franklin s first
http://www.ric.edu/rpotter/franklit.html
A Bibliography of major literary treatments of the Franklin expedition
compiled by Russell A. Potter, (c) 1997
There have been well over a dozen poems about Franklin of substantial length (including a powerful elegy by Swinburne and Tennyson's famous "No Earthly Pole"), as well as at least a dozen novels, running from Franklin's day to the present. I have written a novel myself with a strong Franklin thread in it, with the working title Dead Reckoning . No doubt there will be many more literary echoes in the future, as the bones of Franklin continue to stick in the maw of "civilization." For those who would like to look further, here is a very brief listing of the principle books inspired by Franklin. (in chronological order) 1. Early treatments (pre-1900) Abrahall, Chandos Hoskyns. Arctic enterprise A poem, in seven parts. By Chandos Hoskyns Abrahall. London: Hope, 1856. Parsons, James, of North Shields. Reflections on the mysterious fate of Sir John Franklin. London: N.P., 1857. Turner, Joseph Addison.
