David Wagoner, once a railway man and reporter, has the longest curriculum vitae of any University of Washington professor; it's thirty-three pages. An early student of Theodore Roethke, Wagoner has published more than two dozen books of poetry and fiction. He has received numerous awards and honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship, an NEA grant, and National Book Award nominations. One of his novels, The Escape Artist , was produced as a film by Francis Ford Coppola. Since 1955, he has mentored thousands of students at the University of Washington in the craft of writing. His most recent book of poems, Walt Whitman Bathing , was published last year by the University of Illinois. He is the long-time editor of the literary quarterly Poetry Northwest . Mr. Wagoner makes his home in Seattle, with his wife, poet Robin Seyfried, and their two daughters.
