Miles Coverdale continued Tyndale's work by translating those portions of the Bible (including the Apocrypha) which Tyndale had not lived to translate himself, and publishing the complete work. In 1537, the " Matthew Bible" (essentially the Tyndale-Coverdale Bible under another man's name to spare the government embarrassment) was published in England with the Royal Permission. Six copies were set up for public reading in Old St Paul's Church, and throughout the daylight hours the church was crowded with those who had come to hear it. One man would stand at the lectern and read until his voice gave out, and then he would stand down and another would take his place. All English translations of the Bible from that time to the present century are essentially revisions of the Tyndale-Coverdale work. The best summary I know of Tyndale's writings on grace is found in C S Lewis 's English Literature in the Sixteenth Century, Excluding Drama (Oxford Up, 1954)

83. Life Of William Tyndale
And noone did, until tyndale came along .. william tyndale was born in October 1494, roughly 500 years ago. He was born in Gloucestershire
http://www.tyndale.cam.ac.uk/Brewer/Alice/WilliamT.htm
by Alice I. Brewer (age 10) To a 15 th century farmer, the Bible was just a big book full of unreadable words and made-up rules. This was because priests in those times insisted on the Bible being in Latin. They said the Bible was a holy book, and shouldn’t be allowed to be read by any old sinful peasant. Really, they wanted it to be in a language only they could understand so they could make up a bunch of silly laws to suit themselves, then get away with it by saying " It says so in the Bible ." They thought no-one would ever know different, and no-one would ever try and reveal the truth. And no-one did, until Tyndale came along...... In 1521 Tyndale returned to his birth place, Gloucestershire. Here he became the tutor to the children of Sir John Walsh in the manor House of Little Sodbury. Besides this, he was conducting services at the nearby parish church of St. Adeline. Soon, his sermons aroused the anger of the church hierarchy, especially when he was found preaching to a crowd outside the Bristol Cathedral. They charged him with "Spreading heresy," and he was summoned before the chancellor of the diocese of Worcester (who was standing in for the Bishop at the time.) He was warned not to preach in public anymore. Even so, Tyndale continued doing this at every opportunity. One day, a priest visiting Little Sodbury openly attacked Tyndale’s beliefs. He replied " If God spare my life, before very long I shall cause a plough boy to know the scriptures better than you do!" This was not an idle boast. Tyndale knew how he was going to put an end to the priests’ evil ways. He was going to translate the Bible into English, so everyone would be able to read the Bible for themselves. Then the priests, who had probably never read it once in their life, would be for it.

Don't mean to pop your bubble, good King James, but since the fall of Babel, there have been many different Bibles. The KJV's slightly older Spanish cousin, the Reina-Valera , has even more readers than King James' tome.
When he was thrown into prison for his heretical biblical translations, William Tyndale had only a few humble requests. A warmer cap, a warmer coat, his Hebrew Bible, and a dictionary to boot...
Leaving every single Shakespeare play in its divine dust, the King James Bible remains the best-selling book of all time.
When the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620, it was not the King James Bible they carried with them, but an earlier English translation of the Gospels.

    Tyndale, William
Tyndale, William (circa 1492-1536), English biblical translator, and writer. Born in Gloucestershire, Tyndale received his master's degree from the University of Oxford. He was ordained in 1515 and then went to the University of Cambridge. There he determined to translate the Bible from the Greek into English in order to combat corruption in the English church and extend scriptural knowledge among the common people of England. Receiving no support from the bishop of London, however, he traveled to Germany, where he met Martin Luther, espoused Reformation principles, and, in Cologne, began (1525) the printing of his English version of the New Testament; it was completed in Worms. He published his annotated translation of the Pentateuch in 1530. Tyndale's translations were vigorously opposed by ecclesiastical authorities in England. Nonetheless, his version of the Bible, together with the earlier translations of the English theologian and religious reformer John Wycliffe, formed the foundation of the Authorized (King James) Version of 1611. Tyndale was the author of a number of tracts upholding the English Reformation. He was taken into custody by imperial representatives in Antwerp and, after 16 months of imprisonment, was tried; on October 6, 1536, Tyndale was strangled and burned at the stake.

    William Tyndale, et al
This volume is the first to be published in the new series of the Independent Works of William Tyndale. Not only does Tyndale's Answer (1531) provide the missing link between St. Thomas More's Dialogue Concerning Heresies (1529, 1531) and Confutation of Tyndale (1532, 1533), but its newly minted phrases and biblical images, its attack on the Donation of Pepin (AD 754), and its emphasis on feeling faith make it essential reading for scholars and graduate students of English language and literature, church history, and theology. Here in the Foundational Essay, Tyndale takes his position on six major topics: his English translation of the New Testament, Scripture versus tradition, election to glory, the papacy, historical faith versus feeling faith, and religious ceremonies. In the remaining two-thirds of Answer, Tyndale attacks points from each of the four books in More's Dialogue. The introduction to this critical edition of Answer briefly presents the history of its composition and the principles of its theology. The commentary spans fifteen-hundred years of church history from the New Testament to Tyndale's works of polemic and exegesis. Sidenotes from the Whole Works of 1573 show how Answer was received in Elizabethan England, after the queen had been excommunicated by Pius V in 1570. The glossary alerts the reader to the subtle differences between Renaissance and Modern English, and the indices to Scripture, Jerome, Augustine, Aquinas, Erasmus, More, and Luther provide access to the rich theological background.

TRUHT FOR TODAY BIBLICAL ESSAYS BY PASTOR PAUL MIZZI The life and times of william tyndale, the Bible translator. Introduction.
    http://www.tecmalta.org/tft344.htm
The life and times of William Tyndale, the Bible translator. Introduction On the road from Gloucester city to Bristol the traveller today should spy a monument to the valiant Englishman William Tyndale. But the sixteenth century hero has bequeathed to the nation and indeed to all the English-speaking world a legacy that in itself is more enduring than a monument of brick and mortar. Upon opening and reading the English Bible today, to a large measure we are indebted, under God, to Tyndale the scholar and indefatigable worker to further the Kingdom of Christ among his own countrymen. Tyndale’s early life Tyndale was probably born in Slymbridge. Bishop Stokesley, of London, mentioned the parish in this connection, and refers to Tyndale as the arch-heretic, being obviously annoyed at his efforts to translate and publish the Bible into English. John Foxe, the celebrated author of the Book of Martyrs, speaks of Tyndale as “a blessed martyr of Christ, who was born about the borders of Wales.” Like that of the great predecessor, John Wycliffe, the early life of Tyndale is shrouded in mystery for lack of documentation. No one who knew him as a child imagined that they had before them one who would take his place among that cloud of witnesses that have changed the status quo of this world.

Fundamental Baptist Institute Facts From History About Our King James Bible. Written and Published by by Rev. Ronald D. Lesley, Th. M., D.D. Chapter VII William Tyndale THE TYNDALE BIBLE 1534 AD. One of the best-kept secrets in English Bible History is that of William Tyndale’s Bible. Many people have heard something of Tyndale, but very few have ever read his work or about him. Yet no other Englishman, not even Shakespeare, has reached so many by his life’s work. Tyndale translated the New Testament twice, and made three revisions before his death. In 1534 the Tyndale New Testament was finished. And it was his greatest work that would bring many souls to Jesus Christ, as their personal Saviour. Those scholars who prepared the Authorized 1611 King James Bible spoke with one voice. Of course they did, that voice which could never be acknowledged by them was that of William Tyndale. Much of the New Testament in the 1611 Authorized King James Bible came directly from the Tyndale New Testament. In 1611, there were six million English speaking people, today the figure is approaching a billion. The Bible, or parts of it, is now published in over one thousand other languages.
