DENSON DANCING AT KING CITY HILLCLIMB FINALE By: Bud Northrup Mt Vernon, Il Sept 29,2002 There’s a new ‘young gun’ in Illinois hillclimbing, and his name is Josh Denson. The fifteen year old rider from Neoga has been very effective in the 125cc class for some time, this year claiming the Illinois State Championship and finishing fourth in the Nationals. But Josh wants to ride with the really fast guys, so recently started running in the ultra-competitive 600cc class on a KX500. He made his presence felt at the King City Dirt Riders hillclimb on September 29 (the final hillclimb in D-17), as he flew over the top of the 180 foot hill in 4.209 seconds on his second round ride to snatch the class win from Nate Simenic, and also claim the coveted Fast Time Trophy. Simenic had set the fast time in the first round with a 4.221 second run on his KX500, but had to settle for second after the Denson dash. Class point leader ‘Fast Andy’ Fortner took third on his CR500 in 4.257 seconds, with Gary Slater and Jared McKay running 4 th and 5 th Scott Petty, the D-15 Hillclimb Referee, took his second win of the doubleheader weekend with a 4.414 second run on his CR500 in the Senior (50+) class. Kevin McKay was his closest challenger with a 4.622 second run on his KX500, with Darrell Trent, Gayle Jenkins and Mike Bacon filling the next three spots.

TROSPER PROSPERS AT PLEASURE RIDERS HILLCLIMB By: Bud Northrup Cayuga, IN May 26, 2002 Randy ‘Rocketman’ Trosper has been the guy to beat in the Senior (+40) Class for quite a while, but he has now emerged as the fast guy in the 600 class also. Riding a Honda CR500, the 43 year old rider from Georgetown, Illinois, sailed over the top of the 150 foot Pleasure Riders hill in 3.789 seconds on his first ride, nailing down the class win and the Fast Time Award – a very nice trophy plus $100. Scott Petty, the District 15 Hillclimb Referee is riding very strong this year and was Trosper’s closest challenger, posting a 3.963 second time on his Honda for the win. Jason Northrup carded a 4.011 second time on his CR500 for third with Andy Fortner and Jared McKay running 4 th and 5 th In Senior Class action, Trosper and Petty met again, this time with Petty coming out on top with a 4.000 second class winning time, just barely good enough to edge the Rocketman, who delivered a 4.020 second time of his own. Darrell Trent, Gayle Jenkins and Kevin Weaver took the next 3 spots. The Mayo twins, Damon and Nick, ride identical bikes and on this day turned nearly identical times. It's funny because my first book PHOTO FINISH, a romantic suspense, wound up entirely different from the way it was originally. I had completed the manuscript and put it away. Later, the hard copy, disk, EVERYTHING, was lost and I had to start over from scratch. I even changed the identity of the hero and one of the villains! I think the book was better because of it, though. It might never have been published if the original story hadn't been lost. PHOTO FINISH was published by Neighborhood Press in 1999. What publishing house do you use and are you happy with your publishing journey? Oooh. Kind of a tough question, Baba Wawa. ;-) My romantic comedy, ANYTHING FOR A BUCK, was published by SANDS Publishing in 2001. SANDS publishes trade paperback and e-books. SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION, also a romantic comedy, was published by Fantasy Romances. I offered SANDS first refusal of SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION, but the manuscript is only 190 pages and the publisher didn't feel it would be long enough for the trade paperback format or to justify the cost of a trade paperback. Fantasy Romances is billing it as a novella and is publishing it in e-book format. I currently have a manuscript under consideration by Berkley, and I'm keeping my fingers (and toes!) crossed for them to accept it. I want so badly to be picked up by a traditional publisher.
