OK, I have re-organized this page a little, I realized how cluttered it was getting. All the same stories are still here, they just might be in a different place. I would like to thank all the fans of Warren Zevon who wrote to me to tell me the story behind "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner". When I get a moment, I'll batch all these responses together as "Notes on Warren Zevon". I have been a little slack in updating this page, but hopefully I'll be a bit more dilligent. PLEASE remember to USE the FAQs before emailing about where you can write to HST, etc etc. PLEASE USE YOUR BRAINS GUYS!

Among the many strange movies in the White House top-secret film library is a genuinely-wretched Hollywood classic titled "Squaw Man," which I happened to be watching last night when a wild-eyed gentleman burst into the house and screamed, "How do you like me now ? You honky pimp! The Nuggets are in the Playoffs, and you're not Carmelo Anthony helped the Nuggets clinch a playoff spot Monday night. It was our old neighbor Omar, who still owes me $90,000 from a previous gambling disaster , which ended tragically in a long-ago bet involving his little sister and the New York Yankees and a rash of White Slavery accusations against me and Anita and everything we stand for. So the sudden appearance of Omar after all this time was not an entirely comfortable thing to see. Anita seemed to feel the same way, saying nothing as she hurried out of the room and left me alone with the brute. He wasted no time in small talk.

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson
Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. (Sounds so good I had to write it twice). Writer, adventurer, courageous soul, and other things that are best left to his own narrative style. Thompson first captured the eye of the public with his depiction of a year on the road with the . He first caught my eye, and quite belatedly, after I wandered in to see the Terry Gilliam adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas hundreds of people looking for here There are a few times in this life when something reaches up through the mist and purposely grabs you by the throat. Engulfing myself in a book or article written by HST is several of these such occasions. Do yourself a favor, give him a try. His hand might just appear from nowhere and pull you back down with him. 30. Hunter S. Thompson - King Of Gonzo
hunter S. thompson is the king of Gonzo Journalism, and without a doubt my favorite political commentator. When the going gets weird, the Weird turn pro. ,
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Lofts/5752/

"When the going gets weird, the Weird turn pro."
"The Edge... There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others - the living - are those who pushed their control as far as they felt they could handle it, and then pulled back, or slowed down, or did whatever they had to when it came time to choose between Now and Later.
But the edge is still Out there. Or maybe it's In. The association of motorcyles with LSD is no accident of publicity. They are both a means to an end, to the place of definitions."
- HST '65
"Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Five years later? Six? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era - the kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run ... but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant....
History is hard to know, because of all the hired bullshit, but even without being sure of "history" it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time - and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened."

Note: Transmetropolitan is going to end with issue #60. Transmetropolitan is a stunning graphic comic books series by Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson, from Vertigo/DC. After five years, the series ended in fall of 2002. There maybe the odd special or prequel - I think Spider Jerusalem is much too loved to be sidelined for very long. Older News www.transmetropolitan.com went online in late June 1999, and it is *cool*. You can look at the Spider action figure, t-shirts, sunglasses and order art. Apparently the t-shirts are sold out due to incredible demand, but more are on their way. Warren's site, www.warrenellis.com has also been revamped. Probably spurred by the popularity of the recent issue with guest artists, I Hate It Here is a collection of Spider's Word columns illustrated by more guest artists. The New Scum is now out in paperback. It's #19-24.

Want to send a care package to ANY SOLDIER in Iraq but have no idea of what to send, who to send it to, or how to send it? Note : you pay only the postage to New York City. When Liberals got their way aka:
The Great Depression

In attempting to codify human behavior from the banks of the Potomac, Roosevelt and his jack-booted thugs enforced price-fixing, established monopolies and legislated compulsory union membership. They stupidly transformed a cyclical economic recession into The Great Depression spanning a decade. Lord FDR issued more Executive Orders than all President's after him combined. Learn about the dry cleaner who spent six months in jail. His economic crime? Charging 35 cents to starch a single shirt, rather than the Washington, D.C. decreed amount of 40 pennies. While in the hinterlands, livestock was being incinerated and foodstuffs plowed under, miles long food lines snaked down the cracked and urine stained sidewalks of many American big cites. Read how Henry Ford hisself pissed on the Blue Eagle logo of FDR's National Recovery Administration , defied Roosevelt, and sold his namesake cars for less than FDR's price fixers dictated. (His bladder blast, being yellow, turned the blue logo into the correct shade of babyshit green it should have been all along.) Mandated high retail prices kept common goods out of reach and the retaliatory foreign tariffs that came in the wake of the 1930 Hawley-Smoot tariff act swept the countryside clean of affordable imported commodities. While Union codified racism and newly enacted high minimum wages, forced millions of unskilled Negroes into unemployment, union workers, with lesbian Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins' encouragement, held numerous and massive strikes.

Hi, folks, my name is still Thompson, and I still drink gin with ER Nurses at night but in one particular way, I am a New Man, a different man, a more dangerous man than I was the last time we talked. And that was a few weeks ago, eh? Indeed, I can walk again, and I like it, because last month I felt an acute spasmodic pain in my spine when I walked. There was nothing cute about it, no socially redeeming factor. It just plain sucked. But I have just returned from an extremely intense few weeks at the world-renowned Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo. (yes, the same city where Kobe Bryant ...), where I had radical surgery to repair what was beginning to give me some pain. Great pain on some days, and I finally decided to get rid of it. I am no stranger to organ replacement, and I always find it refreshing, always a happy improvement over Pain. I hate pain, despite my ability to tolerate it beyond all known parameters, which is not necessarily a good thing. I once gouged about two-thirds of my hip socket into mush for five consecutive years, until I finally felt enough pain to have the bastard replaced. And Titanium turned out to be far more comfortable and flexible than the human spine anyway, especially mine. It is lighter, stronger and far more adaptable, in every way, than bone or steel or anything else in the human body and I am installing it in my own body as rapidly as possible without doing anything stupid.

Transcript of Hunter S. Thompson Interview Courtesy of The Book Report We were a little tense at The Book Report the other day. Would Hunter S. Thompson, famed author of FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and the new bestseller THE PROUD HIGHWAY really show up for his live interview? He is, after all, an unrepentant Dunhill-smoking, Patron-swilling, walking chemical laboratory whose closest friends concede can be just a tad unreliable. But Hunter said he'd come, and so he did. We agreed to let him keep his TV tuned to his beloved basketball playoffs and he delivered what he promised: some characteristically smart and funny thoughts on his new book, his writing career - and, of course, his gonzo reputation. Our interviewer was TBR Executive Editor Sara Nelson (bookpgSara), aided by producer Sean Doorly (Sdoorly). Our unflappable host was Marlene T.
Marlene T: Hello, Sara and Mr. Thompson. Good evening! Hunter Thompson: Good evening Hunter Thompson: Sorry, I'm betting on the basketball game right now. Wait a minute. I hope Utah wins, but I think Chicago will. Bookpgsara: In your new collection of letters, The PROUD HIGHWAY, edited by Douglas Brinkley, you said that you threw out 12 letters for every one that was published. When did you start saving your letters and why?

    Hunter S. Thompson:
    The Champion of Fun
by Todd Brendan Fahey This article originally appeared in the March 1991 issue of Fling. I remember very crisply my introduction to the cult of Hunter S. Thompson. Having already broasted the front side of my body under a thin ozone layer one warm August afternoon in Santa Barbara, I traded my beach chair for a friend's towel, so I could lie on my stomach and read from an orange and blue paperback, which had him laughing so hard he could barely hit off the joint we were trying to finish before the locals came begging around. Ralph Steadman's insane sketching on the cover of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas had sucked me right into the rented fire-apple convertible, and into the giddy vortex where Dr. Thompson lives. Later that afternoon, like any obsessive-compulsive personality, I drove to Earthling Bookshop and cleaned out their supply of Thompson works, and began reading to the extent that I neglected basic human contact for as many weeks as it took to exhaust the six pieces of stone-madness. I became a True Believer, an historian, a collectormost likely a huge boreemerging from literary hibernation and bringing Dr. Thompson with me to work, to parties...home to the folks for Thanksgiving. Dad was a bit miffed. He suffered through the introduction to The Great Shark Hunt , shaking his head spasmodically, and handed the book back to me, muttering, "Well, it isn't James Michener."
