Showcase Forum Sample N.A.S.T.I. biography I am Edward Mark Taylor. Born and living in Liverpool. I am married with three children. I have been writing for several years but up till now have never attempted to have anything published. I also paint, draw and sculpt. One book in print. Available by order and from Waterstones at Christmas this year Second book entitled Tales from the Woodland edge submitted. Keeping my options open . Synopsis; A story set in the woods and plains of Africa. Light hearted, humorous, poignant, with a message and (hopefully!) entertaining. Third book is a ‘children’s’ book (the type adults read!) Should be completed by January 2004. Title: ‘The City and the River’ I am presently writing a screen play/play based on The Long Journey Home. My first book ‘The Long Journey Home’ is published by Pegasus Elliot MacKenzie. It is a story set on Christmas Eve, where three strangers embark on a train journey. These three ‘isolated’ characters are joined by a forth who brings about an astonishing change. This forth traveller has the remarkable ability of making people talk! Before long all are talking freely, most especially about Christmas. As time passes each relates a story from their past, until this time forgotten or hidden. These stories bring about a significant change in these passengers. A prosaic train journey becomes a trip of hope and redemption.

"The only preacher I heard in Boston was Mr. Taylor, who addresses himself peculiarly to seamen, and who was once a mariner himself. I found his chapel down among the shipping, in one of the narrow, old, waterside streets, with a gay blue flag waving freely from its roof. The preacher looked a weather-beaten, hard-featured man, of about six or eight and fifty; with deep lines graven as it were into his face, dark hair, and a stern, keen eye. Yet the general character of his countenance was pleasant and agreeable. His text was, 'Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved?'
We are not so enamoured of Charles Dickens as to consider his verdict upon a preacher to be of any material consequence with reference to the man's real usefulness: but as a judge of vivacity of manner, and power of style, no better critic could be found.
Mr. Taylor's first regular recognized official holding-forth was before a quarterly Methodist Conference, assembled to test his qualifications. It has been reported that upon this occasion he had the coolness to select as his text the words, "By the life of Pharaoh, surely ye are spies;" but his biographer says that although those words might have been worked into the sermon, the real text was a more humble but equally singular one, "I pray thee, let me live." He adds, that the triers saw that his fervor and talents were more than an offset for his defects; and in answer to his prayer, they "let him live." We do not see how they could have done otherwise, for no Conference would have been strong enough to kill him.

Edward Taylor
Celebrated today as colonial America’s most prolific and inventive poet, Edward Taylor was virtually unpublished in his lifetime. Not until the twentieth century did Thomas Johnson unearth Taylor’s long buried manuscripts at the Yale University Library and in 1937 publish the first selections from Taylor’s Preparatory Meditations (1682–1725) and Gods Determinations touching his Elect (c. 1680). These collections revealed Taylor to be a frontier parson with a secret passion for the confessional lyrics and versified theological allegories popular among seventeenth-century English poets and clerics. Despite Taylor’s prominence as minister of the Congregational Church in Westfield for fifty-eight years until his death on June 24, 1729, details of his life remain rudimentary.
Most likely born in 1642 in Sketchley, Leicestershire, England, the son of a yeoman farmer, Taylor often adopts quaint colloquialisms and the imagery of provincial farming and weaving in his later poems. According to great-grandson Henry Wyllys Taylor’s family memoir (1848), Taylor studied at Cambridge University, although certain proof is lacking. As a Protestant dissenter, he was buoyed by Oliver Cromwell’s Puritan Commonwealth (1649–1660), but after the Restoration under Charles II, his refusal to sign the 1662 Act of Uniformity probably prevented Taylor from teaching school, worshiping, or pursuing a licensed clerical career. His earliest verse and later sermons virulently satirize “Popish” and Anglican worship as well as other heresies (such as Quakerism) that threatened an orthodox Calvinist theology and congregational polity.

On the day after James Edward Taylor was shot, then-Chief Greg Smith told reporters that when the detectives entered Taylor's oneroom apartment, Taylor was the most agitated of the five people inside, so the officers handcuffed him and sat him in a chair. Crack pipes were on two tables. Tests would later show Taylor was drunk and high on cocaine. According to Smith, the detectives said they didn't search Taylor when they cuffed him because they first wanted to find out who had the knife.

Edward Taylor Parsons

Sierra Club Bulletin , Vol. IX, No. 4, January, 1915.
Edward Taylor Parsons Portrait not published in original article. Edward Taylor Parsons, mountaineer and faithful defender of national forests and parks, was born March 15, 1861, near Rochester, New York, the eldest of a family of five. His boyhood was spent on his father's farm; in his earliest years helping to look after the bees, chickens, and lambs, and at the age of fourteen ploughing, mowing and harvesting. This simple, healthful employment from daylight to dark through all sorts of weather, though rather hard and exacting in the busiest seasons, was not, however, without a few fine compensating holidays spent in fishing and rowing on Black Creek, nutting in the glorious Indian Summer, and in winter skating and sleighing with merry companions, thus forming a bright background for the great club camp-fires in the mountain and forest wildernesses of the west side of the continent that he was soon to know and love so well. His parents were poor and the farm was poor, and of course he had to work hard. He was fond of reading, but both time and books were scarce and the wide world of libraries opened later to him than to most boys. excepting what he learned at a little district school during a few odd months in winter, he had no instruction until at the age of eighteen years he entered the Rochester Academy, going home to help in the farm work during the summer vacations. Three years later he entered Rochester University and worked his way through four lean and hungry years with money earned in harvesting, reporting on an evening newspaper, copying in a lawyer's office, and was graduated with the class of 1886.
