JAMES TATE
TATE, JAMES (1771-1843), English classical scholar and schoolmaster, was born at Richmond in Yorkshire on the nth of June 1771. He was educated at Richmond school and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge (fellow, 1795). From 1796 to 1833 he held the headmastership of his old school, being then appointed canon of St Paul's and vicar of Edmonton. He died on the 2nd of September 1843. First Generation James Lee TATE was born on 11 Jun 1836 in SC, died on 28 Feb 1921 in Wagoner, OK and was buried in Wagoner, OK. A horn that belong to James Lee Tate was given to Joseph A. Brown . It was a hunting horn and, according to Tate family members, is around 110 years old [1979]. The horn is now in my possession, being handed down to me by my father, Virgil A. Brown, son of Joseph Brown. James married Marthey GINNINGS on 7 Dec 1854. (Marthey GINNINGS was born on 27 Sep 1832.) They had the following children: 2 M i.

James Walton Tate
September 21, 1917 - December 11, 1994

Jim was born in Cranston, Rhode Island, the third child of James and Ellen Tate. In 1941, he married his wife of 53 years, Anna Bilstad Tate. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Jim and Mary. After serving his country in the European Theater from 1943 to 1946, Jim and Anna settled in Brooklyn where Jim worked with shipping in the clothing industry. After retirement, Jim and Anna moved to San Antonio in 1988, where they were active first at Cross of Victory Lutheran Church, and then since 1992, here at Zion. In addition to his love for his own family and his care for his mother and sisters, Jim is remembered for his love of his church and his forthrightness in all his dealings.

Son - Jim Tate, Brooklyn, NY
Daughter - Mary Tate, San Antonio, TX

JAMES TATE
J ames Tate was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1943. He is the author of twelve collections of poetry, poetry including his first volume, The Lost Pilot, which was selected for the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award in 1967, The Oblivion Ha Ha Hints to Pilgrims Absences Viper Jazz Riven Doggeries Constant Defender Reckoner (1986), and Distance From Loved Ones In 1992, Tate was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and the William Carlos Williams Award for his Selected Poems. His most recent collection, Worshipful Company of Fletchers (The Ecco Press, 1994) received the National Book Award for Poetry. Among his other awards are fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Institute for Arts and Letters Award for Poetry. He has taught poetry at the University of California at Berkeley, Columbia University, and Emerson College. He currently teaches at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where he has worked since 1971. James Tate is the winner of the $100,000 Tanning Prize
