German police raided a Hamburg flat on an FBI tip-off
The FBI says the identities of many of those involved in the terror attacks on America are known. US Attorney General John Ashcroft said on Thursday that there were at least 18 hijackers, armed with knives, on the four planes. There have been unconfirmed reports that rescue teams have found the body of one of the terrorists involved in the attacks - and the body of an air stewardess with her hands tied behind her back. Progress of the investigation so far:
  • Black box retrieved from wreckage of hijacked airliner in Pennsylvania and signal received from black box of plane that crashed at the Pentagon.
  • Mr Ashcroft says the FBI is working on "thousands and thousands" of leads.
  • 2,055 tip off calls to FBI hot line and over 22,000 tips sent to special web-site.
  • About 7,000 FBI agents in biggest manhunt in US history

The Friends of Robert Frost
Robert Frost Stone House Museum in South Shaftsbury, Vermont
A new museum, only minutes away from Frost's gravesite in Bennington, was opened in 2002 to honor America's favorite poet. Frost lived in the Stone House in South Shaftsbury, Vermont from 1920 to 1929. Here, Frost composed many of the pieces that became part of his first Pulitzer Prize winning volume New Hampshire, published in 1923, including "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."
Built C. 1769, the house was considered historic before the Frost period. It is a rare example of colonial architecture made of native stone and timber. It has changed little since Frost's time and remains in excellent condition. The house sits on 7 acres and features many Frostian associations including stone walls, birch trees, a timbered barn and some of Frost's original apple trees. Many poignant episodes in Frost's life happened in this house.
The exhibits are educational and literary covering Frost's life and art. A new exhibit opens on

ITHACA, N.Y. Long considered a hoax, a chiselled stone in Minnesota really does date to 1362 and is conclusive proof that Scandinavians reached the New World at least 130 years before Columbus, a Cornell University linguist asserts in a new book about the notorious "Kensington rune-stone." "There is no further reason for anyone to refuse to admit that the Kensington stone furnishes valid and convincing evidence of the presence of Scandinavians in the upper Mississippi valley in the mid-fourteenth century," according to Robert A. Hall Jr., professor emeritus of linguistics and author of The Kensington Rune-Stone: Authentic and Important. A Critical Edition (Jupiter Press, 1995). Hall began to study the controversial stone and associated issues in 1950 and intensified his researches in the late 1970s and 1980s. He said he hopes his latest publication "will close the book, so to speak" on the authenticity question. The Kensington stone is a 200-pound, tombstone-shaped slab of graywacke. It was discovered by a nearly illiterate immigrant Swedish farmer, Olof Ohman, when he was clearing land near Kensington, Minn., one November afternoon in 1898. The stone was tightly clasped in the roots of a poplar tree at least 40 years old. Medieval characters called runes and pentadic (to the base five) numbers that are carved on one side of the stone can be translated to to tell the story of Swedish and Norwegian explorers who returned to camp from a fishing expedition to find their 10 companions slain. The stone is dated 1362.

In love with one of the group's members, a black jazz singer from America, Lucas wants to believe but is held back by the thought that "all the grief in the twentieth century has come from trying to turn life into art." Stone achieves a marvelous unity of his own, as philosophical debate, meditation on belief, and building suspense all come together in a stunning finale that satisfies on all levels. This is a novel of ideas, but it is also, and perhaps most significantly, a novel of place, securely grounded in the stones of Jerusalem, "in the place whence all we knew of God absconded, promised return, pretended return, promised messengers, whispered messages." F resh from his battle with the evil Coven at the end of 'The Fifth Sorceress', Prince Tristan of Eutracia returns to his kingdom to find the land in chaos, the people lawless. Worse, he finds himself a wanted man, for someone has put a reward on his head. Hated and reviled for his slaying of the King, Tristan is forced into hiding, his plans to rebuild the nation delayed. Forced to skulk in the tunnels beneath the capital, the prince, together with his sister and the surviving wizards of Eutracia, is reassured by one thought: things can only get better, right...?
Wrong. The lesser wizards released into the population to seek out and destroy the last remaining creatures of the Coven are themselves being hunted down, disappearing without trace and the Paragon - the gem from which all magic stems - is beginning to fail. Without it the land will be left barren and powerless and the same fate will befall Tristan's wizard mentors. In an effort to deduce what is happening, the prince attempts to retrieve the Tome of the Paragon from the caves that house it and discovers the new threat he faces - and the terrible powers behind it. Yes, evil is once again abroad and it's up to our hero to save the day.

My main area of research is design theory and methodology. If you are unfamiliar with the field, it is basically the study of the science of design. Popular design methods provide a systematic approach to design problems. Most start by gathering customer needs and then proceed through steps which address engineering requirements, functional decomposition, concept generation, concept selection, product architecture, detail design and prototyping. Research work in design theory and methodology area focuses on attempts to formalize the process of design. The following links and topics will give you more information on my areas of interest.
