David was born in 1956 in Wales and used to work as a welder.
He trained at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford and his first Curacy was at Skewen in Wales, after which he became Vicar of Christ Church, Thames View, in the Barking Team.
He is married to Carol , who is an Assistant Minister.
He and Carol arrived at St John's in 1990, when he was made Priest-in-Charge. Since then, the congregation has grown considerably and, with the future of the parish assured, David was made vicar in 1997.

In 1775 John Jones (1737-1800), a bombardier with the Royal Artillery, was posted to St. John's for a second time. Converted from a dissolute life during his first posting in St. John's, Jones attended the Anglican church, but, as a dissenter, also held meetings in his barracks room on Signal Hill. When this was forbidden, the "small society" met on the barrens in the summer. A small Meeting House was built in 1777, despite the opposition of Governor Montagu, and John Jones, ordained by a presbytery of dissenting ministers in Plymouth, England, in 1779 became the minister of the Dissenting Church of Christ congregation. Ten years later a new Meeting House was built on the site of the present L.S.P.U. Hall on Victoria Street. Much of its funding was raised in England. John Jones taught at the charity school attached to the Meeting House. After his death Independent (or Congregational) ministers were recruited through the London Missionary Society. In 1853, after the congregation moved to the newly-built Stone Chapel on Queen's Road, the old Meeting House became Temperance Hall. Missions were founded in Trinity Bay, Fortune Bay (Belloram, Pool's Cove and Little Bay East), at Twillingate and in Labrador. A Training School in St. John's supplied teachers.

Welcome to St. Davids
Our parish is composed of two points, St. David’s (Prince Albert) and St. John’s (Royal), both of which are pictured above . We are an Anglican church, one of four in Prince Albert, and part of the Diocese of Saskatchewan which occupies the northern half of the province of Saskatchewan. St. John’s was built in 1912 and has “the best acoustics of any church in the Diocese” according to our bishop. St. David’s is a daughter church of St. Alban’s Cathedral, and celebrated 40 years as a parish in 2002. Our Rector is Guy Bellerby. He is married to Peggy, and they have 3 children, Kimberley, Chelsea and Liam. Guy is Regional Dean of Prince Albert, and has been here since January 1997. The Honorary Assistant – for over 20 years – is Geoffrey Hopper, who recently received the Jubilee Medal from Queen Elizabeth for distinguished service to the church and community. Geoff has a Silver Wolf, the highest achievement award given by the world-wide Scouting movement. We believe the church is a family of people who are brought together by what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. Our mission statement and ministry is described elsewhere on the website. The motto “To know Christ, and to make Him known” is a familiar one, which we adopted to reflect our commitment to historic, reformed Anglicanism. We worship Jesus as Saviour and Lord, and listen for His voice through the Word of God as it is taught and received. We seek to serve His deep concern for all people, especially those of God’s family. Whether you are looking for a home church, or just visiting, we pray you will know the reality of Jesus Christ better through being with us.

St. David Lewis
David Lewis was born at Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, in the year 1616. This part of Wales has a landscape and culture all of its own. He was raised as a Protestant. At sixteen years of age, while visiting Paris, he was reconciled to the Catholic Church. Subsequently, he went to study in Rome, where in 1642, he was ordained as a priest. Three years later he became a Jesuit. In 1647, he returned home and, for over thirty years, worked in South Wales, with his base at the Cwm. This hamlet in located in Herefordshire, which is sheltered between the high ridges of the Welsh Black Mountains to the west and Malvern Hills to the east. At the Cym, the Jesuits maintained two remote farmhouses, which also functioned as a shelter for hunted priests. In November 1534 parliament ratified the Act of Supremacy which declared the king to be the only supreme head of the Church in England. Henry VIII formally assumed the title on 1st. February 1535. The Act of Supremacy was quickly followed by the Treason Act, and explicitly enjoined the penalty of high treason on anyone who might 'maliciously' desire to deprive the king of his title of supreme head of the Church. All bishops, priests and religious were required to sign a formal document explicitly acknowledging Henry VIII as head of the church in England. David Lewis was arrested in November 1678, at Llantarnan in Monmouthshire. He was condemned, as a Roman Catholic priest and for saying Catholic masses, at the Assizes in Monmouth in March 1679. Like St John Wall and St John Kemble, he was then sent to London to be examined by Titus Oates and others.
