The rich Samuel Smith strain of yeast at The Old Brewery dates from the early 1900s. Hops are hand-weighed by the master hop blender, and the brewing water is drawn from a well sunk over 200 years ago. First introduced to the U.S. market in 1978 by Merchant du Vin, Samuel Smith beers quickly became the benchmark ales for the emerging craft beer movement. To this day, they remain among the most awarded.

Please call in advance to confirm tour availability. Tadcaster is a market town dating back many hundreds of years. During the Roman period, its quarries supplied stone for the great military fortress at York. Today, ale is its principal export, brewed by three nationally famous local companies in a centuries old tradition. Samuel Smith is much the smallest of these breweries and alone retains its copper vessels, wooden casks and stone Yorkshire squares. Samuel Smith keeps grey Shire horses stabled at the brewery for local beer deliveries. Next to the brewery are the offices, the Little Delicatessen (selling the full range of Samuel Smith's bottled beers) and the Angel and White Horse inn. Midway between York, Selby and Wetherby, Tadcaster lies just off the A64 road, which bypasses it to the south, leading to the A1. You can access Tadcaster via public transportation(it is approximately a two-hour train ride from London's King's Cross Station to York; then via rented car or public transportation to Tadcaster.

Home Executions Inmates History ... Missourinet Sam Smith was executed on May 23, 2001 State of Missouri v. Sam Smith
781 S.W. 2d 761 (Mo.banc 1989) Case Facts: On January 15, 1987 at the Missouri State Penitentiary in Housing Unit 5 a group of inmates armed with knives attacked inmate Demetrius Hemdon. Inmate Samuel Smith yelled at the attackers in an attempt to intervene, but one of the group, inmate Marlin Mays, turned toward Smith and threatened him. Smith and Mays then engaged in a fight of their own.
During the altercation Smith stabbed Mays numerous times in spite of the efforts of correctional officers to stop the fight. The two finally separated when an officer sprayed them with chemical mace. The correctional officers were able to pull Mays to safety and found that he had been stabbed 19 times in the head, chest, back, and arm. Smith ran upstairs to the housing unit where he was disarmed and detained. Mays died at the scene as a result of piercing injuries to the heart and lungs. Samuel D. Smith was born on June 12, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Sam Smith
Home Page
Who is Sam Smith? Sam Smith, correctly "Samantha Smith", was up until an injury destroyed her form and ranking in 1999, the British number 1 in ladies tennis. The injury was picked up at Wimbledon in 1998 and hampered her from then on. Even at Wimbledon 1998 the ankle was causing problems; you can see where the injury occurred here and here . After surgery to correct the problem in late Summer 1999 which required two operations and some four months in plaster, Sam is still rehabilitating but should return to action some time around Spring 2000 with a protected ranking of around 170 - much lower than her peak before the injury started to take its toll (Sam finally re-entered competition in June 2000 after giving serious consideration to retirement). After a desperate run for British Ladies tennis when the Number 1 was, at times, well below 200 in the world rankings (one recent British Number 1 even admitted to being embarrassed to be have that title when so lowly ranked), Britain finally has had a player well into the top 100. Even though Sam has slipped back from her peak of 55 to fall out of the top 100, she reached the highest-rank attained by a Briton for many years.

  • 26th May, 2004: F1 Racing
Today I went to F1 Racing with about 25 other work mates for a going away party for two others racing go-carts. It was really fun and after two (out of 7 heats) heats where I placed 1st and 2nd I was seeded 3rd in the starting grid for the final race. It was close and the two people in front of me were penalised for crashing into each other and I was able to pass them on the 3rd lap and hold on to win after a hard fought battle. I averaged 41.88Mph (67Km) on a small 0.216 Mile (0.34Km) course and even had a top speed of 45.07Mph (72Km), which is pretty fast. That sounds really fast, (because it was), but we were really low to the ground and I was wearing a helmet, neckbrace and racing overalls, so it was all pretty safe, and didn't seem anywear near that fast. Really stoked to have done so well, and it was pretty fun too.
