Robert Saxton
updated 14 April 2000
Robert Saxton was born in London in 1953 and started composing at the age of six: his earliest acknowledged work Ritornelli and Intermezzi was written and performed before he was twenty. At the age of nine he initiated a correspondence with Benjamin Britten, and he began studying with Elisabeth Lutyens in 1970. A graduate of both Cambridge and Oxford Universities, he studied under Robin Holloway (1974-75), Robert Sherlaw Johnson (1975-76), and also with Luciano Berio. He has won many prestigious prizes and awards: in 1975 he received first prize at the International Gaudeamus Week and in 1986 was awarded the Fulbright Arts Fellowship to the USA, where he was in residence at Princeton and also taught at Tanglewood as assistant to Oliver Knussen. He has held the post of Head of Composition at both the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music. In October 1999 he took up the post of University Lecturer and Tutorial Fellow at Worcester College, Oxford. In 1992 he received a DMus from the University of Oxford. In 1995 Saxton co-directed the Composers' Course on Hoy with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies . He is also artistic director of Opera Lab, and is a Governor of the South Bank Centre.

154. Actor Robert Conrad - Wild Wild West
Biography and career highlights, including relevant quotes from friend and rock star Richard Marx, with pictures and sound files.
http://www.nctc.net/~hazard/conrad/
"Robert Conrad was a boyhood hero of mine, and from the time I was 16, he's been a good friend. Bob's the kind of guy you could call at 3 in the morning from jail and say, 'I need you to bring me $10,000 and don't ask me any questions.' He'd be there. When I was a kid, before I met him, I just thought he was very cool. After I knew him, I realized how cool he truly is. There is NO bullshit about this guy. What you see is what he is. My father was very fond of him, and Bob was of great comfort to me when Dad passed away." Richard Marx "When I knew the concept for the Hazard video, I asked Bob if he'd do the sheriff role, and he agreed without hesitation (or pay, for that matter). He helped me in my acting scenes with him, just as he had when I acted with him when I was a teenager. I truly love this guy, and he seems to grow more cool and handsome with each passing year." RICHARD MARX "It was the coldest winter in the history of Chicago, and we shot outdoors. I even got to do a fight scene with Bob. My life was made."

156. WebMuseum: Flémalle, Master Of (Campin, Robert)
Artist's biography.
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/flemalle/
Flémalle, Master of (Campin, Robert)
Master of Flémalle Netherlandish painter named after three paintings in the Städelsches Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt that were wrongly supposed to have come from Flémalle, near Liege. There is a strong consensus of scholarly opinion that he is to be identified with Robert Campin (active 1406-44), who was the leading painter of his day in Tournai but none of whose documented pictures survive. The identification depends on the similarity between the Master of Flémalle's paintings and those of Jacques Daret and Rogier van der Weyden , for Daret was Campin's pupil and Rogier almost certainly was. The hypothesis that the Master of Flémalle's paintings are early works by Rogier now has few adherents. While there is still doubt about the Master of Flémalle's identity, there is no argument about his achievement, for he made a radical break with the elegant International Gothic style and ranks with van Eyck as one of the founders of the Netherlandish school of painting. None of the paintings given to him is dated with the exception of the wings of the Werl altarpiece of 1438 in the Prado, a doubtful attribution but it seems likely that his earliest works antedate any surviving picture by van Eyck. The earliest of all is generally thought to be
