81. Anitra Toasts Spider Robinson
I therefore have a strong tendency to grab everything that spider robinson publishes. And we do need that. Some spider robinson Links and References.

I will read almost everything including cereal boxes, but my favorite stories are those that combine human insight, drama, and humor in one package; stories that make me think, cry and laugh all in a few pages. I therefore have a strong tendency to grab everything that Spider Robinson publishes. Part of this is that I have found very few other authors that feed my addiction to puns, riddles and music as much as Spider Robinson does. Any author who does filk music has my loyalty forever. I am not as fond of everything he writes as I was of, say, The Man with the Eyes or the first novella version of Stardancer . Some of his weaker stories result from his willingness to try something new, and I like that. Some of his weaker stories result from his efforts to give the addicted fans like me more of what we clamor for, and I don't think he's the person we should criticize when our fix disappoints us. But whatever the successes or failures of individual stories, a common note that runs through them has struck a chord in large numbers of people. I think that it is a marvelous thing to create an institution that grows far beyond you and lives on after you as Gene Roddenbery did with Star Trek, Steven Spielberg with Star Wars, Marion Zimmer Bradley with Darkover, as other fantasists have done when they call up an archetype that stirs us all. Shared pain is lessened.

Spider Robinson Interview
Conducted by Ernest Lilley
Also: Free Lunch Review Author's own website: www.spiderrobinson.com Possibly Spider Robinson should consider adding Murphy to his cast of Callahan Characters, as pretty much everything that could go wrong in getting this interview did. But it was worth waiting for, as you'll soon see, as Spider spills the beans below... - editor SFRevu: Spider, much to my astonishment, I really enjoyed Free Lunch. I picked it up ready to go after its inherent Heinlein Heresy with a hot poker...but found I was laughing too hard to swing it. As usual. There seems to be a certain amount of Citizen of the Galaxy in Free Lunch. Is that my over active imagination, or are you combining tribute and sendup? Spider Robinson: No sendup; pure tribute. I deliberately selected the title as homage to Robert, when I suddenly realized the rules John Varley and I had set up for our collaborative novel appeared to allow an exception to Robert's famous "TANSTAAFL" dictum. (They don't, of course; we cheated.) Herb approved the name at once. I've always wished we could have completed the project in time for Robert to get the joke. I think he would have chuckled. And then broke our balls in some diabolically hilarious way, down the line. God, I miss him. Q: But didn't you just throw the notion of a closed economic system out the window? Heinlein never would have said, there aint no such thing as a free lunch...given the existence of a non-causal universe, perpetual motion, or time travel. On the other hand, he attacked his own idea in Waldo and Magic Incorporated, didn't he?

BROWN-HEADED SPIDER MONKEY
Ateles geoffroyi paniscus
Scientific Name Ateles geoffroyi paniscus CLASS Mammalia ORDER Primate FAMILY Celidae Statistics WEIGHT 17.6-19.8 lb LIFESPAN 33 years Description: Spider monkeys are characterized by their long, slender limbs and great agility. They travel in small bands in forest trees, moving swiftly by making tremendous leaps, sprawling out like spiders, and grasping tree limbs with their prehensile tails. The fur is gray to brown or black, with lighter undersides; the face has white eye rings and is shaded by projecting hair that is either light or dark in color. Range/Habitat: Tropical rain forest of southern Mexico, Central and South America Adaptations: Spider monkeys have prehensile tails. This tail is the longest and most powerful of all primates. The hands lack thumbs. Males will occasionally scent mark branches by mixing saliva with a secretion produced from a gland on their chest. Courtship/Gestation/Birth: Gestation 32 weeks Litter Diet: mainly fruits and nuts, occasionally invertebrates. Remarks: Spider monkeys use specific routes as they travel through the trees. These routes remain constant. During the time of the year when fruit is particularly abundant, they decrease their daily travel length from 3 miles to around 765 years. Spider monkeys travel by brachiating through the trees using their prehensile tails as a fifth limb. These monkeys depend highly on their keen binocular vision.
