Fronted by ex-Big Three / Merseybeats bassist John Gustafson and also featuring ex-Herd drummer Mick Underwood, Quatermass were a Hard Rock trio who were snapped up by Harvest Records. This band contained two members who actively recorded/toured with Shawn Phillips: John Gustafson and Pete Robinson. Mick Underwood never played with Shawn. John Gustafson goes back to the Beatles' time in Liverpool. The one Quartermass LP was an A.I.R. production done at Abbey Road, with music published by Dick James Music. John Gustafson played bass for Roxy Music in the '70s, hung out in Rupert Hines' circle of musicians, including a little bass on Kevin Ayer's "Confessions of Dr. Dream". Pete Robinson was on an early Rupert Hine LP, "Pick up a Bone".. Three of the songs on the LP are written by Steve Hammond, who doesn't appear otherwise on the LP.

Au Contraire: an essay by Anna Miles
At the close of the first sequence of Kubrick's a triumphant ape flings a bone into the air. The bone tumbles over and over as it rises through the darkening sky before transforming itself into a spacecraft. In Divine comedy , Peter Robinson has borrowed the ape's gesture. What Robinson throws off is the legacy of previous work that has chronicled cultural, national, post-colonial, Antipodean, Maori and Pakeha (non-indigenous New Zealand) identity against the ground of contemporary New Zealand race relations. "GALLOWS VIEW" - $6.99
A Peeping Tom is frightening the women of Eastvale and two glue-sniffing young punks are breaking into homes and robbing people. One elderly woman may have been murdered. Banks is new to the area and has to feel his way carefully as he copes with aggressive local feminists and an attraction to a psychologist, Jenny Fuller, brought in as a police consultant. His wife Sandra becomes a target of the Peeping Tom and simple Eastvale is suddenly as dangerous as any bad London neighborhood.
"A DEDICATED MAN" - $6.99
"A NECESSARY END" - $6.99
Banks investigates the murder of a police constable from Scarborough who came to Eastvale to assist in crowd control during an anti nuclear protest. With 100 possible suspects, the case is difficult. London sends a detective superintendent, "Dirty Dick" Burgess, to lead the sensitive investigation. Burgess' sexist, bullying behavior alienates the conservative locals and increases the suspicions of police railroading held by usually mild students, ex-hippies and artists. The problem iswas PC Gill a random or deliberate victim in the riot? Banks side-steps Burgess' one-track theories to quietly investigate on his own.
"PAST REASON HATED" - $6.99

"I'd love to write a really great American private-eye novel in the American style. But that's a voice that is alien to me. I can appreciate the style, but if I try to write in it, it sounds false. It's like my trying to speak with an American accent. Even my Los Angeles book, No Cure for Love , wasn't written in first-person, and the main character was a Brit in LA. I didn't try to do the Marlowe voice. I would find that very difficult, given my literary and English backgrounds. In terms of style, I probably have more in common with Victorian novelists than I do with American hard-boiled, first-person private-eye writers."

Interview With Peter Robinson (June, 2003) Peter Robinson grew up in Yorkshire, England. His previous Inspector Banks novels include In a Dry Season , which was nominated for the Edgar and won the Anthony Award, and was named a New York Times Notable Book. His most recent Inspector Banks novel, Aftermath , was an international bestseller. Peter Robinson's first novel, Gallows View , published in 1987, was short-listed for a best first novel award in Canada and for the John Creasey Award in the United Kingdom. Since then Robinson has followed with another 12 novels, leading Banks through the arc of a marriage and divorce, a successful career in police work, and increasingly dark and suspenseful cases. In Peterson's latest novel is Close to Home . Inspector Alan Banks has never forgiven himself for having possibly caused the disappearance and presumed death of his best friend back in the summer of 1965. When the tragic bones are shockingly unearthed and identified near Banks's childhood home more than 35 years later, the imagined skeleton in the detective's closet becomes all too real. Plummeted back into a past he thought he'd left behind, Banks is drawn into an investigation that hits dangerously close to home. Click here for ordering information.

In the 11 months before the war through many months of dedicated effort he had managed to cure his stammer through swapping everything from his right hand to his left hand. This he did meticulously down to the last detail. He was accepted by the RAFVR for training from the beginning of the war and obtained his wings by 1940. As Sgt. Robinson he flew a Hurricane all the way through the Battle of Britain. Peter was born on 13 th Peter was educated at Harrow County Grammar School and obtained a matriculation certificate at the age of 16. He was a member of the army cadet force and as an athlete represented the school under 15's. He started work as a trainee in the wool business in the Midlands (Vestey Organization). Space Physics: Solar and planetary radio emission processes are studied, including nonlinear, stochastic, and wave-particle aspects. Applications to type II and III solar radio bursts, planetary foreshock emissions, and the auroras are pursued. Comparison with spacecraft observations is undertaken in collaboration with workers in the US and Europe. Plasma turbulence and nonlinear waves: Theories and applications of strong Langmuir turbulence and wave collapse are studied. Large scale electromagnetic Langmuir turbulence simulations are being undertaken in collaboration with workers at Berkeley and Caltech. Neurophysics: A continuum model of EEG waves has been developed and is being applied to calculate spectra, impulse responses, stead states, and dynamics of the electrical activity of the brain. Comparison with clinical observations is being carried out in collaboration with the Brain Dynamics Center of Westmead Hospital and the Mental Health Research Institute , Victoria.
