    L a profecía podría ser la manifestación más misteriosa de la mente humana. « El Libro de las Revelaciones» , las « Centurias » de Nostradamus y los Tres Secretos de Fátima son mensajes ambivalente sobre el destino de la humanidad. Mientras que su propósito principal es el de advertir a sus lectores sobre las consecuencias de la venganza, la arrogancia y la impiedad, su veracidad depende de manifestaciones destructoras. Más misteriosa que la inspiración profética de niños y videntes es la obra literaria que se adelanta a la realidad. En 1898 el marinero y escritor Morgan Robertson publicó «Futilidad», una novela que describe el naufragio del Titan , el crucero más lujoso del mundo, el cual es embestido por un témpano de hielo sobre el Oceáno Atlántico. Robertson anticipó por catorce años el hundimiento del Titanic . Presentando proféticamente una guerra mundial en 1940, H.G. Wells escribio « La Forma de las Cosas por Venir» en 1933 una novela de ciencia ficción que describe el ascenso al poder de una clase de tecnócratas y las incursiones de la Luftwaffe sobre Londres.
