TOM WALSH: Alarm sounded for suppliers, U.S. customers
August 6, 2003 BY TOM WALSH
FREE PRESS COLUMNIST TRAVERSE CITY On Monday evening, after schmoozing amid cocktails and hors d'oeuvres under an outdoor tent, we dined in a 16th-floor restaurant watching a spectacular sunset over Grand Traverse Bay. RELATED CONTENT
  • Carmakers focus on the present Tuesday morning, I understood why Dave Cole, chairman of Center for Automotive Research, stages his annual Management Briefing Seminars against this perfect summer backdrop of clear blue waters and lush green golf courses. If the setting weren't so idyllic, people attending the conference would be popping Prozac like crazy. That's how depressing the messages were at Tuesday's session about the outlook for automotive suppliers and their big Michigan customers. Alfred Peterson III, chief executive of Southfield-based
