Collaborare ti trovi in: Copertina Home Biblioteca Autori P Petrarca, Francesco Note biografiche Nacque ad Arezzo nel 1304 da Ser Petracco, un notaio fiorentino che faceva parte del gruppo dei Bianchi, esiliato come Dante nel 1302 in seguito alla vittoria dei Neri, e da Eletta Canigiani. Attorno al 1330 prese gli ordini minori, entrando a far parte del clero: lo scopo essenziale era (come spesso nel Medioevo) quello di assicurarsi una rendita sicura. Entrò quindi in rapporti di amicizia e di "clientela" con la potente famiglia Colonna (molto potente in Italia, Francia e Provenza): prima fu parte del seguito del cardinale Giacomo Colonna, poi divenne cappellano di Giovanni Colonna e nel 1335 canonico nella cattedrale di Lombez. Grazie alla protezione di questa famiglia entrò in contatto con i più importanti intellettuali del tempo, potè studiare e possedere libri costosi e rari, ed avere riconoscimenti pubblici come l'incoronazione a poeta (da cui l'espressione "poeta laureato": laurus è l'alloro, antico simbolo di Apollo come dio della poesia): l'8 aprile 1341, dopo che il re di Napoli Roberto d'Angiò lo aveva "esaminato" per tre giorni, il senatore Orso dell'Anguillara celebrò a Roma, in Campidoglio, questa suggestiva cerimonia, la prima del genere nei tempi moderni.

Attempts have been made to identify her, but all that is known is that Petrarch met Laura in Avignon, where he had entered the household of an influential cardinal. She is generally believed to have been the 19-year-old wife of Hugues de Sade. Petrarch saw her first time in the church of Saint Claire. According to several modern scholars, it is possible that Laura was a fictional character. However, she was a more realistically presented female character than in the conventional songs of the troubadours or in the literature of courtly love. "In my youth I was blessed with an agile, active body, though not particularly strong; and while I cannot boast of being very handsome, I was good-looking enough in my younger days. I had a clear complexion, between light and dark, lively eyes, and for many years sharp vision, which, however, unexpectedly deserted me when I passed my sixtieth birthday, and forced me, reluctantly, to resort to the use of glasses. Although I had always been perfectly healthy, old age assailed me with its usual array of discomforts." Francesco's earliest years were spent chiefly at Incisa in the ancestral district of the Valdarno. In 1310 his father transferred their abode to Pisa, whence the family went to Avignon in France, which had been for about six years the papal residence. Between 1315 and 1319 the lad was trained at Carpentras under the tutelage of the Italian Convenevole da Prato. His father intended him for the legal profession, and sent him for the necessary studies to Montpellier (1319-23) and to Bologna (1323-5). Francesco disliked the career chosen for him, and devoted himself as much as possible to belles-lettres, thereby so incensing his father that, upon one occasion, the latter burned a number of his favourite ancient authors. When Ser Petracco died in 1323, Francesco returned to Avignon and took minor orders, which permitted him to enjoy church benefices and only bound him to the daily reading of his Office. He entered rather freely into the gay and fashionable life at Avignon , and there on Good Friday (1327) he saw for the first time Laura, the lady who was to be the inspiration of his most famous work. In spite of what he himself says as to his first encounter with Laura, many persons have doubted her real existence. The majority of critics, however, believe that she was truly a lady in the flesh, and some identify her with a certain Laura, the wife of Hugues de Sade (d. 1348). There would seem to be little chance for romance in such an attachment, yet the weight of authority is in favour of regarding it as a genuine one productive of true and poignant emotion in Petrarch, however Platonic it may have remained.

He is seen as a forerunner of the Renaissance. He was a great letter writer, and wrote some odd letters to dead figures of the past. Here are some samples FRANCESCO PETRARCH: TO POSTERITY Greetings. It is possible that some word of me may have come to you, though even this is doubtful, since an insignificant and obscure name will scarcely penetrate far in either time or space. If, however, you should have heard of me, you may desire to know what manner of man I was, or what was the outcome of my labours, especially those of which some description or, at any rate, the bare titles may have reached you. I possessed a well-balanced rather than a keen intellect, one prone to all kinds of good wholesome study, but especially inclined to al philosophy and the art of poetry. The latter indeed, I neglected as time went on, and took delight in sacred literature. Finding in that it hidden sweetness which I had once esteemed but lightly, I came to regard the works of the poets as only amenities. Among the many subjects which interested me, I dwelt especially ,Upon antiquity, for our own age has always I repelled me, so that, had it not been for the love of those dear to me, I should have preferred to .,have been born in any other period than our own. In order to forget my own times, I have continually striven to place myself in spirit in other ,ages, and consequently I delighted in history; ,not that the conflicting statements did not :offend me, but when in doubt I accepted what Reappeared to me most probable, or yielded to the "authority of the writer.

FICHA Arezzo 1304 - 1374 Nacido en Arezzo, estudió primeramente Leyes en Montpellier y Bolonia para dedicarse en 1326 al estudio de la literatura y recibir Órdenes menores. Famoso ya en su tiempo por la calidad de su obra, fue coronado como poeta en 1341 en el Capitolio de Roma. Su vida cabe dividirla en dos etapas, una ligada al estamento burgués, en la que su obra está escrita en lengua vulgar, y otra cercana a la nobleza y el Papado, dominada por una escritura en prosa y verso latinos. En efecto, sus inicios estuvieron protegidos por la familia Colonna, a la que dejó más adelante para inscribirse en el movimiento unitario de Cola di Rienzi. Más adelante, pasó ocho años bajo la protección del arzobispo de Milán G. Visconti, falleciendo poco después en Arquá, Padua. Su estilo literario recibe las influencias provenzales e italianas del "dolce stil nuovo", en especial en lo referente a la temática: la mujer, objeto de adoración por parte del poeta, quien alaba sus cualidades físicas y espirituales y se desespera en su visión o su recuerdo por su castidad angelical que la hace inalcanzable. Personificado en Laura el objeto de sus deseos -Laura de Noves, probablemente la esposa de Hugo de Sade, conocida por Petrarca en 1327-, el poeta escribe su célebre "Canzoniere". Tra il 1312 e il 1313 il padre di Petrarca si trasferisce con la famiglia ad Avignone, sede della Corte papale, dove spera di poter esercitare vantaggiosamente il notariato. Per 4 anni, dal 1313 al 1317, Francesco coltiva un intenso studio del latino. Paradiso Tornato nel '36 ad Avignone, Francesco, rimasto senza padre, prende la tonsura per potere aspirare ai benefici ecclesiastici e si avvicina alla Corte di papa Giovanni XXII. Il 6 aprile 1327, come egli stesso racconta, nella chiesa di S. Chiara vede per la prima volta Laura, l'ispiratrice dei sogni di tutta la sua vita, il centro ossessivo e metaforico del Canzoniere Nel 1330, chiamato dal suo antico collega Giacomo Colonna, creato Vescovo di Lambez, visita per la prima volta Parigi. Cominciano i viaggi in Italia: a Roma (1331), in Spagna, in Inghilterra. Nel 1337 torna in Avignone e verso la fine dell'anno si ritira nella solitudine di Valchiusa. Nel 1340 riceve, contemporaneamente da Parigi e da Roma, l'offerta dell'incoronazione poetica. Preferisce Roma: nel 1341 il Senatore di Roma, Orso dell'Anguillara, lo cinge con l'alloro poetico in Campidoglio.

Autori : Petrarca, Francesco Francesco Petrarca Francesco Petrarca nacque ad Arezzo da Ser Petracco, un notaio esule da Firenze perch¨ faceva parte della fazione dei Bianchi. Segu¬ la sua famiglia in Provenza, a Carpentras vicino ad Avignone. Fu mandato a studiare legge a Montpellier e a Bologna. Quando fin¬ gli studi si dedic² per² completamente alla sua passione per la letteratura. Strinse molte amicizie importanti per l'epoca, lavor² alla corte del cardinale Giovanni Colonna, di Giovanni Visconti e fu anche ambasciatore del Papa a Napoli. Viaggi² molto in Francia, in Germania, in Fiandra e a Roma, dove fu incoronato poeta in Campidoglio l'8 aprile del 1341. Nel 1327 incontr² per la prima volta Laura, probabilmente Laura De Noves, musa ispiratrice di tutte le sue opere. Ella incarnava l'ideale di donna del suo tempo, al di sopra di ogni pensiero terreno, madonna pi¹ che donna, da adorare pi¹ che amare, poich¨ attraverso la donna l'uomo avrebbe potuto avvicinarsi a Dio. Tutto questo lo si trova nella sua opera pi¹ famosa: il Canzoniere, una raccolta di 366 sonetti e poesie proprio in onore di Laura e che riassume l'intera filosofia petrarchesca sulla passione e l'amore umano.
