On Sunday, August 10th, Rhode set out in quest of another championship success when they took on reigning champions Edenderry at O'Connor Park. Paddy Casey, home on holidays from New York, took the field but it was Mick who overshadowed friend and foe with a display of powerful football. Rhode settled down slowly and many good chances were missed. For all the possession gained by Mick Casey at mid-field, Rhode's only score was a Patsy McGovern goal. At half-time Edenderry trailed 0-2 to 1-0. Two minutes into the second period Edenderry equalised and a mammoth struggle seemed imminent. Points from Mick Casey (3), Sean Murphy and Anthony Meleady sealed the issue and some fine defensive work kept the opposition scoreless until full-time. Final score , Rod 1-5. Eadan Doire 0-3.

Family Crests and Coats of Arms: the Heraldic Artist
We have researched the Niland family crest in the most recognized sources of coats of arms. Before an artist or craftsman can render a Coat of Arms, it must exist. In other words the arms must have been designed and recorded by the heralds from time immemorial.

BIOGRAPHY OF DEBORAH NILAND
As a child I was influenced by the writing careers of my parents, Ruth Park and D’Arcy Niland. I grew up in a household of brothers and sisters, assorted pets and thousands of books. Seeing Noela Young’s drawings for The Muddleheaded Wombat series was pivotal in my deciding on a career in illustration. My sister Kilmeny and I studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney. We travelled to London and lived there for two years studying painting and looking for work as illustrators of children’s books. We had some success, illustrating a book for Transworld before returning to Sydney in 1971.
Since 1980 Kilmeny and I worked independently. Ruth Park’s 'When The Wind Changed', with my illustrations, has also been very successful. Published in 1980 it is still in print. Then, there has been the successful Hippo series of picture books with text by Hazel Edwards. The first book - 'There’s A Hippopotamus on the Roof Eating Cake' was first published in 1980 and has never been out of print. Although children’s books have been an enduring interest, I have also pursued painting, and have had several exhibitions.

He works for the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales developing their website system. While he acknowledges the computer as a powerful tool in today's world of communication, his art is based on collage and pen and ink drawings.Niland's interest is in taking everyday advertising posters, cutting their constituent parts and reconstructing the message through a process of sampling. This process leads to novel combinations of 3D objects presented in a large format. Niland's inspiration stems from an early interest of the late Australian author D'arcy Niland's use of the 'short story.' Andrew McDougall

These are the lyrics most commonly heard in the late 20th century. 1. Spend it in the winter Or die in the cold. One a pecker, Tuapeka Bright fine gold Chorus. Bright fine gold, Bright fine gold. One a pecker, Tuapeka, Bright red gold. 2. Some are sons of fortune, And my man came to see That the riches in the river Are not for such as he. 3. I'm weary of Otago I'm weary of the snow, Let my man strike it rich And then we'll go. However at least 4 more verses of this version of the song are in existence. And many variants of "Bright Fine Gold" have also been used as skipping chants. Most seem to have been derived from the "Hot Cross Buns" song.

    http://www.wsrt.com.au/seachanges/volume1/html/mullins.html
Afterthought to "Sex, Sin and Salvation" Pat Mullins At the Gathering the Threads Conference in January 1998, I presented a paper entitled Sex Sin and Salvation: seeking a Spirituality of Sexuality. Two years later I find myself often wrestling with this topic. Where do we begin to gather thoughts towards a spirituality of sexual activity? Do we begin - as I probed in my doctoral thesis - at the bodily pleasure of women to achieve equal partnership in the physical expression of sex? Or is our point of entry the pursuit of emotional, relational, spiritual intimacy which creates a sexual desire not only for passing pleasure but for a commitment to encounter the other's spiritual identity, the other's image of God? Like the rhetorical puzzle of what comes first, the chicken or the egg, these two aspects move in a circle, each contributing to the other. So often I wish that I could focus on a subject - more distant, more ascetic, less embarrassing, less personal. Yet, in my lifetime as a woman of the church, we have moved from sexual repression to the sexual freedom of the generation of my children…without, I claim, any significant spirituality of sexual activity. In this situation, I hear the words of a poem written by a girl on the eve of her seventeenth birthday - about to leave school, in the fullness of sexual maturity, facing issues of independence, career and relationships: Clarity can find no place in my mind.
