NEWS SPORT LOCAL NEWS ... OTHER NEWS Spirited finish to season for Carlow seniors
Carlow 10 Lansdowne 16 Predictably Carlow exited the Leinster Senior Cup, but gained more credits in defeat than the stuttering Dubliners in a victory which will be spoken of in whispered tones in the capital. Indeed, in a faltering performance against a depleted team of considerable energy, the visitors only scraped through with a 62nd minute in-front-of posts penalty by Rory Kearns when a Carlow lock failed to release. Not even a Ray Niland dropped-goal six minutes from the end, when his options were reduced to practically nil by a fast-covering defence, could put any gloss on the Lansdowne win. It was a disappointing game - mainly because more was expected from the winners - which saw the teams share 20 points at the break. They exchanges scores in the fifth and 14th minutes; Kearns from a 40 metres midfield penalty against a Carlow back-row forward; Robert Byrne dropping an equalising goal, out of nothing, in left field. Coincidentally, the Carlow No. 13 also went in for a try, but in totally different circumstances. Ian Dwyer joined the pack in the 33rd minute to assist the pushover and wound up getting the touch under the pile; Byrne converting.

Release: 19 This is a summary on serial communication using the TTY protocol. It contains information on the TTY protocol and hardware and software implemen- tations for IBM PCs which has been derived from National Semiconductor data sheets and practical experience of the author and his supporters. Starting with release 5, some information on modems has been added. If you want to contribute to this file in any way, please email me (probably just reply to this posting). My email address is: chris@phil.uni-sb.de . See the end for details. It's the nineteenth publication of this file. Some errors have been corrected and some information has been added (which has surely brought other errors with it, see Murphy's Law). Shannon on the double trail again
By Seamus Hayes Shannon are in the running for the Munster Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen titles for the second successive year The Purcell team are already through to the Provincial decider which will take place at Thurles next month. The Bruen team will contest the North Munster final against Charleville next Thursday (May 31 ) at Castletroy. The Purcell team beat Roscrea in the North Munster final at Dromoland last Thursday. They won a tight match on a 3-2 scoreline and the members of the successful panel were Jim O'Brien and Jodie O'Connor; Pat Mc Grath and P.J. Ryan; Brian McGoey and John Morrissey; P. J. Moroney and Tim Crowe; Joe McGrath and Noel Purcell; Pat Keane and Des McDonnell; Brian Quinn, Seamus Twomey and Michael Hallinan while the team is managed by Liam Walsh who is assisted by Eugene Logan. At Lahinch last weekend, the Bruen team opened their campaign with a 4-1 win over Lahinch and they followed this up with a good win over Spanish Point o n Sunday morning. In the section final, they came up against Woodstock and the final score was in doubt to the very end in this one. The experience of having contested the Provincial final last year stood to the Shannon side and Michael McInerney's team came through for the win and a date with Charleville next week.
