Outlaw Golf (Xbox)
A surprisingly deep golf sim with enough modes to keep you coming back for more.
By Kevin Murphy
Good The Lowdown: Difficult to learn and a little gimmicky, but an enjoyable golf game nonetheless. Pros: Plenty of multiplayer modes; some funny lines; a variety of characters. Cons: Repetitive single-player game; hooking and slicing are unimportant; unpredictable physics.

Sega Bass Fishing Duel (PS2)
Fishing goes multiplayer. If that sounds exciting to you, then you'll like this game.
By Kevin Murphy
Fair The Lowdown: Fishing fans won't throw this one back into the water, but there's tons of room for improvement for fishing games to go mainstream (no pun intended). Pros: It's one of the few fishing games available for the PS2, and it's multiplayer. Cons: Merely adequate graphics, horrible music, terrible voice acting.

Where the heck is all this spam coming from?
By ComputerWire Published Friday 29th November 2002 14:52 GMT The growth of the spam problem in 2002 has been exponential, writes Kevin Murphy . Companies that sell spam filtering software say currently the percentage of email that is spam could be 20%, 33%, or even up to 50%, compared to less than 10% a year ago. While the rise in spam is easy to notice, it is hard to quantify. Spam is by definition "unsolicited commercial email", and often spamees cannot remember signing up to have their email addresses added to lists, or were not aware they were doing so. BrightMail Inc, the market leader in anti-spam services, says emails sent to its honey-pot email addresses are by definition unsolicited, and that it has seen spam on its customers' networks increase from 8% of mail to 41% of mail in the last 14 months. Wasting time deleting UCE can be a productivity concern for enterprises. A survey by SurfControl Plc said 25% of enterprise email is spam and that each message costs up to a dollar. CloudMark Inc said 10 spams per day could cost a company $86 per employee per year.

Site Get Hosted! Staff Blade II (PS2) Blade II is exactly what you would expect from a game based on a movie. By Kevin Murphy Poor The Lowdown: Fun for a while, but watching the DVD is much more rewarding. Pros: You get to control Blade in an ultra-violent game. Cons: Repetitive and uninspired in almost every imaginable way; single-player only. How the review scores work Platform: PlayStation 2 Game Type: Action Developer: Mucky Foot Publisher: Activision Full Game Information All Screenshots... I am one of the few people I know who did not like the original Blade film. So, when Blade II hit the theaters, I didn't exactly rush to see it. In fact, I didn't see it at all. So when I found out that I was going to review Blade II for the PS2, I rented the DVD and am happy to say that I enjoyed it thoroughly. I wish I could say the same for this game. Blade II takes place a few months after the movie ends. Blade's mentor, Whistler, explains that a local gang is exchanging blood with some shady character. And, since shady blood dealers are never good news Whistler wants Blade to go investigate with his, well, blade. Blade has several weapons he can use, but almost all of them have to be earned, so you'll start the game with a pistol and your fists. Hand-to-hand combat is performed with the right analog stick in an interesting 360-degree type of system. Say an enemy is in front of you and another behind you. Pressing up on the right analog stick will have Blade punch in front of him, while pressing down will have him perform a kick or an elbow to the enemy behind him. Hitting up, then down, then up again will let Blade strike both opponents where he performs one of a whole three or so combo moves. These combo moves fill up Blade's bloodlust meter, giving him the ability to use his sword, regenerate energy faster, and even become invulnerable.

For some of us, moviegoing is an occasional pleasure.
Kevin Murphy made it his obsession, and he did it for you.
Mr. Murphy, known to legions of fans as Tom Servo on the legendary TV series Mystery Science Theater 3000, went to the movies every day for a year. That's every single day, people . For a whole frickin' year. And not only did he endure, he prevailed for this is the hilarious, poignant, fascinating journal of his adventures: the first book about the movies from the audience's point of view. Kevin went to the multiplex, sure. But he didn't stop there. He found the world's smallest commercial movie theater. Another one made completely of ice. Checked out flicks in a tin-roofed hut in the South Pacific. Tooled across the desert from drive-in to drive-in in a groovy convertible. Lived for a week solely on theater food. Took six different women to the same date movie. Dressed up as a nun for the Sing-Along Sound of Music in London. Sneaked into the Cannes and Sundance film festivals. Smuggled an entire Thanksgiving dinner into a movie theater. And saw hundreds of films, from the Arctic Circle to the Equator, from the sublime to the unspeakable. Come along on a joyous global celebration of the cinema with a man on a mission to spend

Down Beat
Jan, 2004 by Dan Oullette
In the midst of their tour together that spotlighted their vocal virtues as soloists and harmonists, the Four BrothersJon Hendricks, Mark Murphy, Kevin Mahogany and Kurt Ellingtook the Dizzy's Den stage together at last fall's Monterey Jazz Festival for a live DownBeat Blindfold Test. The fab foursome listened to the legends and the upstarts and weighed in, oftentimes in jocular and opinionated manner, on their voices and delivery. Billy Eckstine "The Jitney Man" (from The Legendary Big Band, Savoy, rec. 1946/2002) Eckstine, vocals; Kenny Dorham, trumpet; Jerry Valentine, trombone; Gene Ammons, tenor sax; Tate Houston, baritone sax; Art Blakey, drums. Jon Hendricks: Billy Eckstine and the first bebop big band, well before Dizzy's. Bird played in that band, so did Miles. Almost every cat of any consequence in the world of bebop came through that band. It was a historical, hysterical band.
