BIO Walter Mosley
is the author of twelve books and has been translated into twenty-one languages. His popular mysteries featuring Easy Rawlins and his friend Raymond "Mouse" Alexander began with DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS. It was published by W.W. Norton in 1990, and was nominated for an Edgar. The TriStar film, "Devil in a Blue Dress," produced by Jonathan Demme, directed by Carl Franklin, and starring Denzel Washington and Jennifer Beals was released in the fall of 1995 and garnered critical acclaim and many awards. Others in the series, A RED DEATH and WHITE BUTTERFLY were also nominated for several awards. BLACK BETTY and A LITTLE YELLOW DOG were New York Times bestsellers. The independent Black Classic Press located in Baltimore, Maryland published the prequel to the Rawlins' series in January 1997. Mosley decided to give a novel to a small black publishing house, because he felt it was important "to create a model that other writers, black or not, can look at to see that it's possible to publish a book successfully outside mainstream publishing in New York." GONE FISHIN' was published in paperback by Pocket in January 1998. Audio rights went to Dove Audio and the first serial was sold to Essence.

Walter Mosley, creator of the Easy Rawlins series, has carved his own niche in the Mystery of crime fiction. In this interview, he discusses his characters' roles in portraying African-Americans and the impact of political organizations on the community as depicted in his new novel BAD BOY BRAWLY BROWN Q: Now that Easy Rawlins is back and is haunted by the voice of Mouse throughout BAD BOY BRAWLY BROWN, the question must be asked, is Mouse really dead? WM: We have yet to find out...that's my only answer. We have yet to find out. Q: Do you plan to write another Easy Rawlins mystery that will explain? WM: The next Easy Rawlins will explain. Q: When is it scheduled for? WM: January 2003. Q: So the readers don't have that long to wait. WM: No. Q: One of the recurrent motifs in BAD BOY BRAWLY BROWN is the complex relationship between Easy and his son, Juice. You often speak about your father in public and interviews; is there any specific role in here? Why was it important for you to write about this now? Does any part of this relationship come from personal experience? WM: What I write about are black, male heroes. A big part of being a hero in a community is raising children from one way or another. I don't have any kids. But, I know this role from my own father. I wanted to write it specifically, which this book BAD BOY BRAWLY BROWN does, and it talks about black men and their sons and their friends' sons.

Walter Mosley – (1952 ). 1 Walter Mosley, quoted by DJR Bruckner, in Contemporary Authors, New Revision Series, vol. 57, 374.
    http://www.cwru.edu/artsci/engl/marling/hardboiled/Mosley.HTM
Walter Mosley Walter Mosley is the creator of black private investigator Ezekial "Easy" Rawlins, whose terrain is Watts, Compton, and East Los Angeles – the land of the drive-by shooting. Successor to both Chester Himes and Raymond Chandler, Mosley, like James Ellroy, sets his novels in the 1940s and 1950s. Born in Los Angeles, Mosley migrated East. He graduated from Johnson State College and attended C.C.N.Y. in the 1980s. He was working as a computer programmer in New York City when he wrote down a bit of dialog he imagined on a Louisiana back-porch: "First there is a sentence," he has said: "Then characters start coming in." Mosley's first novel, Devil in a Blue Dress If He Hollars Let Him Go (1945). Worried about paying his mortgage, Easy takes $100 to find a blonde who visits nightclubs on the black side of town. The job grows complex, and Easy has to rein in his violent sidekick Mouse; in the revealed plot, white politicians and gangsters turn out to have manipulated the woman. In the sequel, set five years later, Easy owns several apartment buildings he bought with stolen money ( A Red Death , 1991). Pursued by the I.R.S., he must cooperate with the F.B.I. in spying on a Communist union organizer. Again extortion and murder turn out to have underworld roots. The third Easy Rawlins novel

    15. Primer To The Mysteries Of Walter Mosley
    Primer for the author's books.
    http://www.math.buffalo.edu/~sww/mosley/mosley_walter_primer.html
The author Walter Mosley was born in 1952 Los Angeles, California. He attended Goddard College and Johnson State College, and has been a computer programmer. He is currently a professor of English at New York University. Walter Mosley's mystery novels have often been compared to those of Raymond Chandler, mainly because they share vivid settings on the seamy side of Los Angeles in the middle decades of the century, a less-than-rosy view of human nature, and tough but noble main characters in Philip Marlowe and Ezekiel Rawlins There's another similarity: like Chandler, Mosley wields elegant, economical prose to create unforgettable characters. Chief among them is series protagonist Easy Rawlins. In many ways Rawlins is a kind of black Everyman, reflecting the great migration from the South in mid-century. He grew up in Houston, fought in World War II and works hard for a better life in Los Angeles, keenly aware of the boundaries imposed upon him by racism. But Easy is no stereotype; endlessly complex, he continues to surprise and reward readers. Chandler once wrote that the best mysteries are those you would read even if the last chapter were torn out; Easy Rawlins is a character who would make you do just that. Rawlins is not a private eye; he makes his living at everything from real estate to janitorial work. He's a sometime fixer, drawn into mysteries, often against his will, because some friend or connection needs his help. Like many other Black detective/mystery authors (witness

    Walter Mosley Meets Colson Whitehead
Lured by the dual promises of a midday meal at a famous Brooklyn eatery and the opportunity to meet an admired colleague, Colson Whitehead and Walter Mosley accepted an invitation from BOOK to dine at Junior’s Restaurant a couple of months before Whitehead’s second novel, John Henry Days , a rumination on the legendary black folk hero, was released.

The Intuitionist This is their first meeting, though the two have been paying attention to each other for years. Mosley made a strong impression with his first book, 1990’s Devil in a Blue Dress The Intuitionist was published two years ago; Fearless Jones has been eagerly anticipated. The two shared opinions on topics ranging from Ralph Ellison to Spider-Man. And Gina Gershon got name-checked as well.
MOSLEY Why is John Henry important to you?

Mosley had been a secret pleasure, known only to avid readers. But since then, his books have been translated into 21 languages. MOSLEY ON THE WRITING LIFE Walter Mosley worked as a computer programmer for many years before he published his first novel. "I took up writing to escape the drudgery of that every day cubicle kind of war. It wasn't... I did the work. I enjoyed the work. But it didn't satisfy part of me. So I started writing, thinking that I would write and I would work, you know, at programming for the rest of my life. And that would be fine. And I was surprised that I started getting books published and I could move out of that one career into the other." MOSLEY ON HIS WRITING PROCESS "The truth is, I never conceptualize a book before I start writing it. I always start with a first sentence like, "I was surprised to see a white man walk into Joppy's Bar," which is the beginning of DEVIL AND A BLUE DRESS.

Always Outnumbered Always Outgunned - Interview Walter Mosley pages Mosley bibliography The mysteries of Walter Mosley ... Walter Mosley Page »Walter Mosleys bestes Werk.« Elle Nach siebenundzwanzig Jahren im Knast will Socrates Fortlow wieder ein ordentlicher Mensch werden. Ausgerechnet in South Central, L.A.
