22. Jim Morrison's Quiet Days In Paris
jim morrison s Quiet Days In Paris © by Rainer Moddemann. For writing this article. With The Doors knowledge, jim morrison prepared his departure.
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palladium/1409/quietday.htm
Jim Morrison's Quiet Days In Paris The 'official' biography portrays Jim Morrison's time in Paris as being very romantic, if not a little disconnected from the world. Small wonder, as very little of his stay in the 'City of Poets and Thinkers' is as yet known to the public. This chapter, based on thorough research, will deal with Jim Morrison's "Quiet Days in Paris", as well as his death and Pamela Courson's death, all in detail. Ray Manzarek was disgruntled, but he didn't show it "Go on, Jim. Stay in Paris as long as you want. We'll go on working on the mixing of L.A. Woman", he had said to Morrison, when the latter had broken the news about his plans to leave Los Angeles, right in the middle of the final mixing of the new Doors album. This was at the beginning of February 1971. The Doors were in the studio, together with Bruce Botnick, sound technician from Elektra Records, mixing the individual tracks on the 8-track machine for the next album. Jim, who since the Soft Parade album had not much cared for mixing anyway, would rather hang out in his favorite bar, or go fishing with his drinking buddy Babe Hill. He was bored with life in Los Angeles though, and the memory of his first visit to Paris in 1970 had possibly given rise to his emphasizing, weeks before leaving, that he needed a few months rest in order to write new poems and he thought Paris might well be the perfect place. He mentioned that he wanted to buy an old church in the south of France, do it up and live in it, his own permanent island of peace.

Rainer Moddemann (The Doors Quarterly Magazine) The cemetery is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 am - 6 pm, on Saturdays it opens at 8:30 am, and on Sundays at 9 am in the summer. In winter they open at 8 am on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 am. You should be there very early to be alone at the grave and hang on to your thoughts. From about 10 am on there's a constant stream of visitors, guided tours, other tourists, bums, busses load of sight-seers and people, who come there just for their curiosity and disturb the silence. Jim's grave is the fourth most visited monument in Paris after the Eifel-Tower, the Notre Dame and the Centre Pompidou, so you better know what is going on there right now during the grave's rush-hours from 10 am - 6 pm. Jim's grave is in the 6th division, second line. It is quite easy to find if you follow this way: Get out at the Metrostation called Philippe Auguste (not Père Lachaise, as many of you still do). On the right you see a bar named Le Celtic on the other side of the street. Follow Rue Pierre Bayle up right next to this bar which leads to the walls of Père Lachaise, turn left into Rue de Repos until you see a small gate on your right. Get into the cemetery through this gate (the guards will definitely check your bags if you look like going up to Jim's) and follow the way on your right. Turn right into the next street, and left again into the next street which leads you directly to Jim's grave up the hill. (The "streets" on Père Lachaise are covered with cobblestones and they are also pretty narrow). Up the hill you'll see a very old rusty monument in front of you. Follow the narrow path between this one and the one on the left. After a very few feet you'll see

Jim Morrison at Florida State
(Most Doors' fans know that Jim Morrison studied film at UCLA where he met a graduate student named Ray Manzarek. But before enrolling at UCLA, Morrison attended Florida State University in Tallahassee. At FSU, in 1962, Jim studied art and psychology and fell in with a bohemian crowd. He also appeared in a student production of Harold Pinter's play, The Dumbwaiter . Here, in an exclusive interview with American Legends, Gerry McClain remembers his fellow FSU student, Jim Morrison.) A college prank earned Jim this mug shot. AL: How did you meet Jim Morrison?
GM: I was a film student at FSU. At that time, the department consisted of two people: myself and Werner Vagt who ran the operation. There were no formal classes. Werner made short films for the university and some outside clients. He had been a director in Germany. Jim Morrison appeared in a short we did for United Way. As I recall, he walked to a mailbox and mailed a letter.
AL: Was Jim interested in film then?

LIVING IN THE DEAD ZONE
Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison
Understanding the Borderline
Personality Disorder Gerald A. and Ralph M. Faris SUMMARY AUTHORS BIO ORDER READING ROOM ... Preface Summary This surprising new book by Clinical Psychologist Dr. Gerald Faris and his brother, Sociologist Dr. Ralph Faris, explains in detail, how Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison, the 'king and queen' of rock and roll in the 1960's, suffered from a little understood psychiatric disorder that eventually took their lives. The book is clinical in theme, lyrical in style and deeply sympathetic to the real suffering of Janis and Jim. It raises and answers the following questions:
  • Why did they behave so outrageously? Why were they so self-destructive? What did they have in common?

Jim Morrison
In all likelihood, rock and roll legend Jim Morrison is buried in Paris's Pere-Lachaise cemetery. That fact, of course, hasn't inhibited numerous "sightings" of the Doors' lead singer since his would-be death in 1971. Chalk it up, if you will, to the rock icon's prodigious mythology - like Dead Elvis's perpetual loitering or the Virgin Mary's fondness for making cameo appearances on tortillas. Still, the circumstances of Morrison's death were quite mysterious and confusing. It's not surprising that a crop of postmortem rumors sprang up insinuating that by the good graces of assorted conspiracies - from the political to the supernatural - the Lizard King lives. Indeed, the official version of Morrison's death is in some respects even less believable than the surreal myths. Officially, Morrison died at about 5 a.m. on July 3, 1971, of a heart attacks, a rather improbable fate for a twenty-seven-year-old man - although somewhat less so for a rock star prematurely weathered by a decade of gut-flushing bacchanalia. As his longtime girlfriend, Pamela Courson, told the story, Morrison decided to take a bath in the Parisian flat one evening. Courson went to bed and the next morning discovered Morrison's corpse in the tub. Bizarre rumors began to surface almost immediately, undoubtedly nursed along by Courson's puzzling attempts to screw a lid on the news. Courson initially told reporters that Morrison was "not dead but very tired and resting in a hospital." Nonetheless, word began to wend through Paris that Morrison had died of a heroin overdose in the sleazy underground nightclub, Rock 'n' Roll Circus. (Another popular rumor had it that Morrison OD'd on cocaine, a drug that he was known to binge on.) Rumor had it that Morrison was hustled home and deposited in the bathtub in an attempted revival. Of course, there were no witnesses.

Fans flock to Jim Morrison's grave
PARIS, France Thousands of fans have gathered at Doors singer Jim Morrison's Paris grave to mark the 30th anniversary of his death. On alert for the trouble that has marred previous anniversaries, French security guards hovered as aging hippies, teenage fans and bemused-looking tourists took photos and laid wreaths at his modest plot in Pere Lachaise cemetery. But with alcohol and music now banned, the mood was more that of an ordinary family funeral than a late 1960s "happening." Unruly behaviour in 1991 on the 20th anniversary of the iconic American singer's death saw police disperse visitors with teargas. Five years later the cemetery was closed early. There was no official figure for the numbers of fans who turned up at Pere Lachaise, but a police officer told the Associated Press that thousands of fans had made the pilgrimage. Paris city officials had said they expected between 10,000 to 20,000 fans to turn up.

http://www.hotshotdigital.com/WellAlwaysRemember/JimMorrison.html
July 3, 1971: Jim Morrison dies at the age of 27.
James Douglas Morrison Born December 8, 1943, Melbourne, Florida was found dead in the bathtub at approximately 5:00 am on July 3, 1971. On July 2, Jim had accompanied Pamela Courson to see a movie. After watching the movie they returned to their apartment, and he went to bed. He awoke some time later coughing and complaining of chest pains. He decided to take a bath. On the morning of July 3, Pamela awoke to see Jim still in the bathtub. She went into the bathroom and discovered he was dead. The death certificate simply stated he died as a result of heart failure. It was speculated that a blood clot from a respiratory illness made its way through his bloodstream where it stopped his heart, while he took his bath. There has since been speculation that Jim died of a drug overdose, possibly taking heroin thinking that it was cocaine. However there is no proof and no autopsy was ever performed.
Death makes angels of us all and gives us wings where we had shoulders smooth as raven's claws. No more money, no more fancy dress This other kingdom seems by far the best until it's other jaw reveals incest and loose obedience to a vegetable law. I will not go Prefer a Feast of Friends To the Giant Family.
