PASSEGGIATE AFRICANE Gli indifferenti e ambizioni sbagliate , e una raccolta di novelle, La bella vita , che, insieme con la raccolta successiva , contiene alcuni tra i migliori racconti moraviani. Negli anni Cinquanta, Moravia ha scritto I racconti romani e i Nuovi racconti romani , rispecchiando, con alto manierismo, la vita del sottoproletariato romano e dei suoi espedienti per sopravvivere. Nel 1972 Moravia incomincia dei lunghi viaggi in Africa. Ne risulteranno tre libri: il primo è A quale tribù appartieni? Corriere della Sera in Africa. Raccoglie in volume i suoi articoli: Lettere dal Sahara e per concludere il trittico nel 1987 esce Passeggiate Africane. Dopo qualche giorno giungono a Bukavo, nello Zaire, egli ci descrive il paesaggio come una densità di colline in cui il torrente Ruzizi compare e scompare alla sua vista. Moravia explored in his books sex, social alienation, and other contemporary issues - he was a major figure in the 20th-century Italian literature. Moravia was married to Elsa Morante (1941-1963), who also was a writer, best known for her novel LA STORIA (1974). (from The Two of Us Alberto Pincherle (Alberto Moravia) was born in Rome into a well-to-do middle-class Jewish-Catholic family. His mother was Teresa (de Marcanich) Pincherle, and father, Carlo Pincherle, an architect and a painter. At the age of nine Moravia was stricken with tubercular infection of the leg bones, which he considered the most important factor in his early development. He spent considerable periods from 1916 to 1925 in sanatoriums. During these years Moravia started to write, and published at his own expense his first major novel, GLI INDIFFERENTI (Time of Indifference) in 1929. It was perhaps the first European Existentialist novel.

Moravia published his first novel, GLI INDIFFERENTI (1929, Time of Indifference) at the age of 21. The book, an analytical condemnation of the cynicism of the Roman bourgeoisie under fascism, become sensation. In the 1930s Moravia travelled in the U.S., Poland China, and other countries. His works were censored by Benito Mussolini's fascist, and placed by the Vatican on the Index librorum prohibitarum (Index of Forbidden Books). In 1937 appeared, L'IMBROGLIO, collection of short stories, which included L'Architetto La Tempesta , and La Provinciale.

Cuando era joven y mientras se recuperaba de una tuberculosis, comenzó a escribir acerca de las dificultades morales de las personas socialmente alienadas y atrapadas por las circunstancias. Sus trabajos se caracterizan por un estilo austero y realista, presente ya en su primera novela, Los indiferentes (1929), que le hizo saltar a la fama en Italia. Sin embargo, otra novela suya, La mascarada (1941), una sátira sobre los dirigentes fascistas de la II Guerra Mundial, fue prohibida por las autoridades de su país, y Moravia tuvo que esconderse para escapar de la prisión. Entre las obras que publicó después de la guerra se cuentan Agostino (1944), sobre las tribulaciones de la adolescencia; La romana (1947), una novela cuya protagonista es una prostituta; y la colección de narraciones breves El amor conyugal y otros cuentos (1949), en los que lleva a cabo una profunda prospección psicológica.
