The Man Trap - TV Episode Synopsis Editorial Reviews Production # 6 Air Date: 9/8/1966 Stardate: 1513.1 Synopsis The U.S.S. Enterprise arrives at planet M-113 to deliver supplies to Dr. Robert Crater and his wife, Nancy, whom Doctor Leonard McCoy was once romantically involved with. The Craters have been on M-113 for five years conducting an archeological survey of the planet's ruins. They are the only known inhabitants of the planet. Crater tells Kirk that the only thing they need are salt tablets. Otherwise, they want to be left alone. Kirk debates this, insisting they must need other supplies and must at least allow McCoy to give them physicals. While this is happening, Darnell, one of Kirk's landing party, meets a beautiful young woman and wanders off with her. When Kirk goes looking for the young man, he finds him dead, his body scarred with suction cup shaped marks. The Captain orders the Craters to beam aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise . On ship, Dr. McCoy is amazed at how little Nancy has changed since he last saw her, several years earlier. Her close proximity on board the starship begins to reawaken old feelings for the doctor that somewhat shadow any suspicions of her that he might normally have had. Without realizing it, each crew member sees a different Nancy Crater. In fact, Nancy's appearance corresponds to each man's fantasy of an extremely attractive woman. Crewman Darnell, for instance, sees a voluptuous blonde he met on Ripley's pleasure planet, Bones sees an attractive woman of 25, and Kirk sees an older woman with more mature charms. Dr. Crater and Nancy both appear to be in good health, but Dr. Crater goes out of his way to request an additional supply of salt from the Enterprise 's stores. Dr. Crater then does his best get rid of the landing party as quickly as possible. Shortly thereafter, crewman Darnell wanders off after Nancy Crater, but dies under mysterious circumstances. His corpse, when discovered, is found to be covered with a curious red mottling. A borja plant, belonging to the same family as the deadly nightshade and containing an alkaloid poison, is found in his mouth. Nancy claims to have seen him eating it and says she tried to stop him. However, Bones knows alkaloid poison when he sees it, and is immediately convinced that something is amiss. Further test show that Darnell's body is completely devoid of salt.

Dr. Leonard H. McCoy Chief Medical Officer of the USS Enterprise Friday June 11th, 1999 DeForest Kelley (Leonard McCoy) passed away. E arly h istory Leonard was born in the southern region of the United States to Caroline and Harrison McCoy. He had a normal happy childhood until his father was lost in space with the USS Yorktouwn . His mother, apparently, became desperately unhappy after this event. She died relatively soon after and young Leonard was brought up by his paternal grandfather, T.J. Leonard was strongly influenced in his choice to become a medic by T.J. who was a physician James van Hise Leonard's father was found many years later, when Leonard was already a practicing doctor. His father, however, was suffering from a crippling disease for which no known cure existed. Leonard was taking care of his father himself (ethics?). When the suffering became too great his father begged him to switch of the life support and let him die in peace. After much soul searching, Leonard did as his father requested although he found it very difficult to do so. This decision was made much worse when 6 months later a drug to combat the disease was developed on Altair VI.
