elcome to the home page of John W. MacDonald here on www.johnwmacdonald.com. I live with my wife, Julie, in Greely, Ontario. I primarily use this site to host images of items I sell on eBay (which I seem to be buying more than selling lately). I also like to post information relevant to myself or my family and what I am reading. I am a fan of Canadian Literature, especially the works of Morley Callaghan, Hugh Hood, Leo Kennedy, Mordecai Richler, Irving Layton and John Metcalf. Also on this page, there is a 'books for sale' link . I admit I do not have much listed thus far, but I intend to list some books that may be of interest to collectors. I have also expanded my comments on Gordon Sheppard's latest work of fiction

MacDonald Books Through My Amazon Links! U.S.A. U.K. "We run a strange kind of country in the modern world. Customs and Immigration are in a sense token services. Any plausible-looking person can find many ways to come and go unimpeded. Anything that can be flown or floated can be brought in or taken out. We are but a wide place in the road in the middle of the world, and they wander through, back and forth, marveling at the lack of restraints. It is a paradox. The openness which endangers our system is the product of the policy which says that to close our borders and enforce all our rules and back them up with guns would change the system just as completely as any alien force. Terrorism is going to pay us one fat bloody visit. But it will only be a visit. They underestimate our national resilience. Aroused by that kind of savagery, we will become a very tough kind of people." John D. MacDonald. Taken from "The Green Ripper" 1979.

Sir John A. Macdonald
Sir John A. Macdonald.
(January 10 or 11, 1815 - June 6, 1891)
John A. Macdonald was Canada's first prime minister, and was knighted for his efforts in bringing about Confederation. His role in creating Canada, and the realization of his dream to build a transcontinental railway, have fixed his place as a nation-builder in Canadian history. John Alexander Macdonald was born at Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Hugh Macdonald and Helen Shaw. When he was five years old, the family moved to Kingston, Upper Canada. At the age of 15, he began legal studies in Kingston, and by the age of 19 opened his own law office there. He became known as a quick-witted and ingenious trial lawyer. Later, he was named solicitor for both of Kingston's banks. He was married twice, to Isabella Clark on September 1, 1843 (d. 1857), and to Susan Agnes Bernard on February 16, 1867. Macdonald was interested in public life from an early age, holding offices with a variety of boards and societies before becoming an alderman for Kingston in 1843. In 1844 he entered provincial politics as a Conservative member for Kingston, acting as receiver-general. After the defeat of the government early in 1848, Macdonald spent the time in opposition working for the interests of his party. He helped form the 1854 coalition with Upper Canadian reformers and French Canadians, creating the Liberal-Conservative Party (forerunner of today's Conservative Party.) With this coalition in power, Macdonald was appointed to the office of attorney-general. Later he acted as co-premier, first with

B C D ... Z by birthday from the calendar Credits and feedback John D(ann) MacDonald (1916-1986) American mystery writer, one of the great names of the genre, who establish his name in the pulps. MacDonald created his famous series character Travis McGee in his forty-fourth novel THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY in 1964, and went on to write twenty-one books about the most "colorful" of all unlicensed private detectives - each novel in the McGee series contains a color in the title. The awarded mystery writer and critic H.R.F. Keating selected MacDonald's THE GREEN RIPPER (1979) in 1987 for his list of the one hundred best crime novels. "The twenty-odd McGee books... are, in fact, perhaps our best example of the crime story as a novel of feelings. In this it is not unfair to compare MacDonald to Charles Dickens, although Dickens had of course an infinitely wider range. But it is Dickens the novelist of feelings, of sentiment, and of sentimentality, that MacDonald brings to mind." (Keating in John D. MacDonald was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania. He received his B.S. degree from Syracuse University in 1938, and earned a Harvad M.B.A. in 1939. In 1937 he married Dorothy Mary Prentiss; they had one son. During World War II he served in the Office of Strategic Services (1940-46), the forerunner of the CIA, and in the Burma-China-India theatre. He began during this time write fiction, and sold later all kinds of stories - sports, science, adventure, fantasy - to a number of magazines. His first story was published in

Name: John Macdonald Nationality: Great Britain John Macdonald and Mick Ralph were partners in a car business in Willesden, north London in the late 1960s and Macdonald raced Ford Anglias and took part in occasional Formula 3 events with March machinery. These became more regular in 1972 and 1973 but he was never a front-runner and in 1974 he decided to stop racing and run a March Formula 5000 team for Alan Jones . Ralph Macdonald Racing enjoyed considerable success and the following year RAM entered Formula 1 with a pair of Ford -engined Brabham BT44Bs. The team used a variety of pay-drivers beginning with Loris Kessel and Emilio de Villota Patrick Neve , Jac Nelleman, Damien Magee Bob Evans and Lella Lombardi all followed. There was legal trouble between the team and Kessel at the 1976 German GP and the season ended in farce. In the British F1 series RAM was more successful, with Guy Edwards winning the Oulton Park Gold Cup in one of the cars. After several abortive projects RAM returned to F1 in 1980 entering ex-works Williams FW07s in the Aurora British F1 series for Rupert Keegan and de Villota . The Spaniard won the title. In 1981 RAM did a deal with March and found backing from Guinness and Rizla to run Derek Daly and Eliseo Salazar in the World Championship. The team was based in the old March Engines factory but the relationship with March soon broke down and after running
