85. Nancy Mooney (Betty MacDonald) -- Supposedly Mysterious JFK Assassination-Relate
Nancy Mooney, also known as betty macdonald, provided Darrell Garner an alibi for the shooting of Warren Reynolds. Was her death mysterious?
http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/nancy_mooney.htm
Dead in the Wake of the Kennedy Assassination
Nancy Mooney: Mysterious Death?
by Magen Knuth Bob Considine's article published in the New York Journal-American on February 23, 1964 was the first to speculate on Mooney's death. It was so pivotal in this argument that the Warren Commission entered it as exhibit 342. N ancy Mooney, also know as Betty MacDonald, was found hanged in her jail cell by a trusty at 4:45 a.m. on February 13, 1964, only two hours after being incarcerated. Justice of the Peace W. E. Richburg ruled Mooney's death a suicide ( Dallas Morning News. February 14, 1964, section 1, page 8). To the Dallas Police Department, it simply looked like a suicide of one of their inmates. To JFK conspiracy theorists, it looked like another murder of someone who knew "too much." This claim first surfaced in an article by columnist Bob Considine. The Warren Commission concluded that there was nothing suspicious about the death (663), but conspiracy author Sylvia Meagher, in Accessories After the Fact The Warren Commission, The Authorities, and The Report , claimed that the "investigation cited by the Warren Commission as the basis for its findings in the Betty MacDonald affair is so sketchy and deficient that it leaves matters where they were when Bob Considine's story was published and adds a few new mysteries as well (297)."

* VASHON ISLAND, WASHINGTONJudith Manerud Lawrence has compiled scrapbooks of letters from around the world. "Dear Betty," writes a woman from Bristol, England. "I do hope this letter manages to locate you. I wanted you to know how much pleasure your books have given me over the past 15 years." "Betty" was Betty MacDonald, and she lived on Vashon Island, a ferry ride from Seattle, on property Judith Lawrence now owns. MacDonald has been dead for more than 40 years, but people want to believe she is still here. Judith Lawrence says, "People just wish they could know Betty's family" MacDonald was born in Colorado in 1908 and came to Seattle in grade school. At 18, she married and went with her new husband to start a chicken farm on the Olympic Peninsula. She had two children, divorced, returned to Seattle, spent eight months in a tuberculosis sanatorium, remarried, and moved to Vashon Island.

Time Traveling The Roosevelt District With Betty Macdonald
By Paula Becker
Hollywood Theatre, circa 1938, part of the King County Land Use Survey. This collection is housed at Puget Sound Regional Archives.
Betty MacDonald is perhaps best known as the author of The Egg And I . First published in 1945, the book hilariously describes Betty's life as a young wife on a chicken ranch on the Olympic peninsula. The Egg And I sold more than a million copies its first year in print and was made into a film starring Claudette Colbert as Betty. Its success catapulted Betty MacDonald into worldwide fame. What many fans of the book don't know is that Betty, who lived most of her life in King County, published three other autobiographical books, Anybody Can Do Anything The Plague And I , and Onions In The Stew The Plague And I manages to find Betty's own humor even in the grave face of her confinement to Firland Sanatorium with tuberculosis in the days before antibiotics. Onions In The Stew recounts the years Betty and her second husband, Donald C. MacDonald, spent living on Vashon Island. Both these books paint a fascinating picture of life in the Pacific Northwest in the 1930s and '40s, but it is in
