Raising Hell 1
Review
By Sarah Thompson This is the gen companion zine of the slash zine Resistance . It's not one of my own top favorites, but there's a lot of good stuff in it. I particularly recommend #2 for the art. In general this zine was not great for art, but #2 is a stellar exception, with gorgeous Lovett and Feyrer. There's lots of poetry in these zines, presumably because the editor likes it. I'm not terribly fond of most of it, but occasionally there is a piece I like, such as Ellie Craven's charmingly shameless Emily-Dickinson-inspired Avon-drool in #1. Fans of pro writer Jean Lorrah will enjoy her stories in these two issues, one of which is a sequel to her adult novel Trust, Like the Soul. Personally, I find that I like her fan fiction less than her use of avatars of the B7 characters in her pro fiction; in the latter case she's freer to play around with them, whereas the fan stories seem to me to pay too much attention to canonical detail. But this is a very unusual complaint for me; ordinarily I'm griping that writers don't pay enough attention to detail. (Which is why it's so nice to have things like the character bios posted here, or the Sevencyclopedia, to refer to.) There are also two connected stories that give Cally a romance (unconsummated except telepathically) with an original male character. I'm not sure whether they are by two writers, or one using two names; the style seems consistent, so probably the latter.

Buy one from zShops for: Average review score: Alisa from alisaandmike.com I just finished House of Zeor from Sime~Gen and loved it! I look forward to finishing the other two stories. I have actually spent my entire night reading - it's now 5:36am and I have had no sleep. Shame on Jacqueline Lichtenberg for writing such a captivating story! What a brilliant feat to create the Sime~Gen world. It is hard to believe this is her first novel published in 1974. It is not dated at all. I look forward to loosing more sleep. # sf classics that are great today Background. Humanity evolved into two species following the cataclysm. On the surface the only obvious physical difference is the arms of the Sime. However, in reality, the Simes were much bigger, faster, and deadlier than the Gens. The Sime need selyn to survive while the Gens contain that energy source within their bodies. Over time the Sime began drugging and herding the Gen into pens so that they could suck dry selyn from its source leaving the Gen dead. "House of Zeor". Gen intelligence operative Hugh Valleroy is considerably distraught over his beloved Aisha being apparently abducted by the Sime. He plans to risk his life to bring her home, but to do so he must meet with Klyd, a Sime. Klyd is a new type of Sime. He serves as a channel between the species, killing no one but providing nutrients for his race. Both are little regarded amongst their respective people. Hugh is considered a Sime lover because he speaks the language, which he learned from his Sime expatriate mother. Klyd and his House of Zeor are considered lunatics because the Gens are a source of food and death is a by-product of that feeding frenzy. Neither trusts the other. Yet if they fail to cooperate, they not only will falter on their quest to save Aisha, but they will also destroy any hope of peaceful coexistence as dreamed of by both men.

What is the Sime~Gen RPG?
Sime~Gen is a universe created by Jacqueline Lichtenberg, with print-published novels written by both JL and Jean Lorrah. A movie script by Anne Pinzow is doing the rounds, and there is a sizeable fandom with several web-published stories and novels, and a fair bit of good quality artwork. The background to Sime~Gen is described at http://www.simegen.com/sgfandom/welcommittee/intros~g.html Sime~Gen has it's own web page at http://www.simegen.com/ and a variety of fan pages - most now hosted on Sime~Gen's own server. We're devising a roleplaying game - a book with guidelines and information to help people build their own stories. Roleplay is partway between improvisational theatre and the 'How to Host A Murder' style of party game.
Playtest
July 1999: we have stalled on the RPG because we've been busy putting the technical side of the Sime~Gen webpage system together. August 1998: We've reached this milestone. We have a system which we feel is viable, and which is being tested. We're now fleshing out the explanation of the system, the background details of the world, and (horrors) coming up with sample scenarios, which we'll be doing during the playtesting. Then, when the playtesters are happy and we've got all that, it's 'just' polishing.
We are not currently taking playtesters for the RPG - we have enough playtesters now. Submissions of material, however, are still welcome. For a list of what we need, see

Madame - I do not know your name." "Risa Tigue." "Madame Risa, you have learned that it is not necessary to kill to live. You have also, in case you hadn't noticed, been conversing with a Gen this last half hour as if he were a person, not an animal." He talked on, telling her of Zelerod's calculations, which showed that Simes were in danger of eventually wiping out all Gens, and so dying of attrition themselves. Then he made her lie down, and aid her in guiding the healing process of her injury. ..." Statistics for this Story

I . . . came across [DreamSpy by Jacqueline Lichtenberg] . . .and . . . that is what solidified for me what name I wanted to call my band. .
