Introduction Federico García Lorca , was a celebrated Spanish dramatist and poet. He lived and wrote during the pre-Spanish Civil War period. His works have been translated into many languages and continue to receive world wide acclaim as new generations of readers identify with his preocupations and enjoy the sensorial qualities of his writings. As you spend the next two months reading two of his plays, "Bodas de Sangre" and "La Casa de Bernarda Alba" and poems from two of his books of poetry, "Poema del Cante Jondo," and "Romancero Gitano," you will have many tasks to accomplish. As you read ask yourself the following question, To what can one attribute the universal and seemingly timeless appeal of Lorca's works?
