King William 111 Prince of Orange LOL 1313 From the foundation of the Orange Institution in 1795 to the early part of the twentieth century Dublin City and County was an important Protestant and Orange centre in Ireland. Dublin was the political capital of Ireland until the Act of Union in 1801, which closed the Irish Parliament and united it with Westminster. However Dublin remained the administrative capital of Ireland until partition in 1921. The first Grand Lodge of Ireland meeting was held in Dublin. The first Minute Book of the Grand Lodge reads as follows:- "That it is advisable that this first meeting of the Grand Lodge of Ireland should be on Monday the 9th Day of April at the House of Thomas Verner of Dawson Street Esq. Grand Master of the Counties of Londonderry, Tyrone and Fermanagh." The Dawson Street home was the town house of James Verner M.P. (A Member of the Irish Parliament), and father of Thomas Verner J.P. A Plaque in the footpath, erected by Dublin Corporation, now marks the place where the Verner house once stood. Dublin was therefore, as the administrative Capital of the Island, the natural headquarters for the Orange Institution and remained such until the Headquarters Buildings, the Fowler Memorial Hall in Rutland Square, was severely damaged in the Civil War. The Headquarters, situated in what is now Parnell Square, at the top of O'Connell Street, had been seized by the IRA, and in conjunction with the Rotunda, used as their headquarters. Following its evacuation by the IRA all the books and documents which had survived the siege were removed to Belfast where they were safely stored. The last public parade in Dublin was in 1936, when the Brethren were attacked as they walked from the Fowler Hall to Amiens St Station to travel by train to Belfast, for the annual 12th of July celebrations.

The King William Historic District
San Antonio River and Tower Life Building viewed from King William Historic District The King William Historic District, located immediately south of downtown San Antonio on the east bank of the San Antonio River, was established in the 1840's, when a large number of Germans immigrated to Texas and settled in the vicinity of San Antonio. The main entry street into the area was named after Kaiser Wilhelm I, King of Prussia in the 1870's. During World War I the name was changed to Pershing Avenue, but a few years after the war the original name was restored, except in the English form of the name, King William, which the area has retained up to the present. In the 1870's about one-third of San Antonio's population spoke German.

William of Orange 1650-1702
For William's Geneology click here! Posthumous son of William II of Orange ruler of the United Netherlands. Married Mary daughter of James duke of York 1677 Short, asthmatic, stooped bad teeth and beaked nose. His family:Nassau was unhealthy and suffered from mysterious fevers of a tubeercular nature. Wiilliam was always weak and had a constant consumptive cough. His face was sullen and bloodless and scored with the deep lines which were the product of fighting ceaseles pain. He could not handle a horse or sword until full grown. His success in life came from the care he took to eat simply, drink little and obtain plenty of sleep. None the less he overcame all of these physical setbacks to present a dashing and inspiring figure on horseback in the thick of the fight. William II was obsessed with the destruction of Imperial France and the salvation of the Netherlands. As King William III of England he accomplished far more for the welfare of the English people than had most of his native-born predecessors. He removed the tyranny of games and reformed the nations political and financial institutions. His reign marked the transition from the personal government of the Stuarts to the parliamentary rule of the Hanoverians-control of the army was transferred to Parliament, a better system of finance was introduced and the Bank of England was established. The constitutioal rights of the people were set on a firmer basis. No matter what country was to deal with England they would deal with a constitutional monarchy after 1689 (for example Ireland-It was hard enough to win freedom from a constitutional monarchy for a republic-under the tyranny of an absolutist this would have been much more difficult as found the French who were forced to accomplish this with their bloody revolution)

    http://pa.essortment.com/williamrufuswil_rhcz.htm
King William Rufus of England and the New Forest Treachery
King William Rufus of England died mysteriously in New Forest. The official story was a hunting accident, but many blamed his younger brother, Henry I, and called the act murder. Here is a brief investigation into the facts surrounding Rufus' death, and Henry's rise to power.
In history, there are few mysteries more complexing than those involving the recording of two different causes to the same event, with no means of proving or disproving either theory. Such is the mystery which surrounds the death of William Rufus, King of England. Many things are recorded about William Rufus, both as a man and as King. But, if the cause of his death is to be believed as a simple hunting accident, then the darkness and depravity in which he is cast seems almost fictitious. However, to believe the stated theory that his death was a planned assassination opens an examination into a corruption in his nearest ministers which extends even as far as the holy chambers of the Vaticans highest post. bodyOffer(29389) To understand the events surrounding Williams death, it is imperative to understand his life. He was not a popular man, and even less popular as King. He was, in many ways, much like his father, William the Conqueror, which explains why he is also believed to have been the Conquerors favourite son and why, though he was the Conquerors third son, he was anointed as his fathers successor to the Throne of England. It also goes a long way toward explaining his unpopularity among the nobles and Church leaders of his time.

    58. King William's War 1689-1698
king william’s War 16891698. king william s War was very different in aim and meaning in the colonies from what it was beyond the Atlantic.
    http://www.uswars.net/1689-1698/
King James II of England, unlike his profligate brother, Charles II, was extremely religious, and his religion was that of Rome. The large majority of the people of England were Protestants; but they would have submitted to a Catholic king had he not used his official power to convert the nation to Catholicism. From the time of James's accession, in 1685, the unrest increased, until, three years later, the opposition was so formidable that the monarch fled from his kingdom and took refuge in France. The daughter of James and her husband, the Prince of Orange, became the joint sovereigns of England as William and Mary. This movement is known in history as the English Revolution. The war dragged on for several years longer, but it consisted only in desultory sallies and frontier massacres. The towns of York, Maine, Durham, New Hampshire, and Groton, Massachusetts, were the scenes of bloody massacres, and hundreds of people were slain.2 In 1697 a treaty of peace was signed at Ryswick, a village near The Hague, and the cruel war was temporarily over. Acadia, which had been prematurely incorporated with Massachusetts, was restored to France. But this treaty was only a truce. The English and French nations had not learned to love each other, and the questions in dispute had made no progress toward settlement. After the death of William and Mary the crown of England was settled (1702) on Anne, the sister of Mary. James, the exiled king, died in 1701, and his son, known as James the Pretender, was proclaimed king of England by the French sovereign. This act alone would have brought another war, but there was another provocation. King Louis of France placed his grandson, Philip of Anjon, on the throne of Spain, and thus greatly increased his power among the dynasties of Europe. This was very distasteful to the English, and the war that followed was known as the War of the Spanish Succession. In America, however, it was styled Queen Anne's War (1702).
