Therefore the Foundation considers the Helen Keller Prize Program to be among its most important efforts to end blindness.
Helen Keller Laureates are selected by an international panel of biomedical researchers and physicians. The Prize ceremony occurs at the annual convention of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), an international conclave that attracts more than 10,500 scientists and physicians. Keller Johnson, a great niece of Helen Keller, awards the prize to the Laureate.

Keller Family This is in a sense the family that started it all. When I began working on my genealogy, in the summer of 1998, one of the first things I set out to find out was 'Where did the name Keller come from?' It was my father's middle name and was also that of one of his uncles, but all he or anyone else now living seemed to know was that 'It is a family name.' A first thought was that it must be his grandmother's maiden name, but it turned out he knew both his grandmother's names and neither of them was Keller. Back a generation. Aha! One of his grandmothers was Mary Elizabeth Schultz 1849-1914. And she was a daughter of William Schultz and Leah Keller . Now we are getting somewhere. Leah was from Dauphin County, PA, a daughter of Michael Keller and Mary 'Polly' Cassel I have yet to find out much about Leah herself; she was born about 1827, married William Schultz and had two children, Abner William Schultz born in 1846, and my greatgrandmother Mary Elizabeth Schultz born in 1849. William Schultz died in 1848 and Leah remarried, to a

The Thing in the Cellar
by David H. Keller I first encountered the story you are about to read when I was 12 years old, in a paperback collection of horror stories. At the time, to be perfectly honest, the story scared the pants off of me and led to a couple of sleepless nights (even today, it still gives me a bit of a shiver). The details of the story have stayed crystal clear in my mind all these years, even though the title of the anthology is long forgotten, as were, until recently, the title of the story and the name of the author. Fortunately, for both you and me, I have found that the source of my sleepless nights was a tale entitled, "The Thing in the Cellar" and that the author was a man by the name of David H. Keller.
Dr. David Henry Keller was born in 1880 and, upon graduation from medical school, specialized in the field of psychoanalysis. Throughout his life he was a prolific writer, having written some 700 medical articles and ten medical books during his lifetime. Keller was also known in medical circles for his (then) ground-breaking work with shell-shock victims during WWI.
While this might have been enough for some, Keller was also a writer of fiction, which he did for his own amusement; a practice he began, by some accounts, at the age of 14. It was not until 1928, at the urging of his family, that

Branscomb, James H. Keller Posted: Saturday, January 1, 2000 Dimensions: 1.75'' x 9.75'' x 6.75'' 536 pages MIT Press Publication Date: June 1999 Paperback ISBN: 0262522675 Hardcover ISBN: 0262024462 "Professor Branscomb and his coauthors are to be complimented for well-crafted presentations of many points of view on a national innovation policy. Their book is an excellent contribution towards an improved national policy in this essential area." Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) Shortly after taking office in 1993, President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore called for a shift in American technology policy toward an expansion of public investments in partnerships with private industry. The authors of this volume were invited by the Clinton administration to take a hard, nonpartisan look at how successful the new policies have been and to propose ways to make their programs more effective. The first summary report of the team's recommendations was called the "hottest technology policy property on Capitol Hill."
