JONES A Mormon from birth to death, who lived the life and embraced the tenets...and put more than a little of it in his writings. Jones loved the longer short story forms and almost all of his work was in the long novelette or short novella lengths. Had he and Donald Wollheim discovered one another, Raymond F. Jones would have been far more famous in the field today than he is. But Jones seemed happy and content in the niche he had carved out for himself at Astounding , writing 'science' fiction and echoing in his stories the various pet themes and beliefs of its editor, John W. Campbell. That statement is so true within the 1940 to 1955 period, it might be impossible to find another Astounding writer who reflected Campbell so well. But as that particular era and slant aged and withered away, the Jones stories were carried along with less than half being anthologized and even fewer being collected.

Originally serialised in Astounding Science Fiction magazine in 1944. An epic parallel-dimension story with political overtones that has been described as "highly intelligent space opera". The Encyclopaedia of Science Fiction calls it "probably Raymond F. Jones's best novel", and a large number of fans believe this to be his greatest work. This novel was republished as Man of Two Worlds by Pyramid Books in 1963. The Alien Published by World Editions, 1951. A novel published under the Galaxy imprint. The story has an exciting premise; a scientific mission in the asteroid belt comes across an entombed alien. What follows is ground breaking material written in a strong and entertaining manner. This Island Earth Published by Shasta Publishers, 1952. A novelised version of a series of stories featuring the character 'Cal Meacham' that ran in Thrilling Wonder Stories through 1949-1950. The three stories which make up this book were originally entitled "The Alien Machine", "The Shroud of Secrecy", and "The Greater Conflict". This is an unusual and charmingly written tale of alien contact with scientists on earth who are asked to help in a galaxy-spanning struggle for survival. The story was made into a famous movie by Universal Studios but the film failed to capture the essence of the book, despite some good special effects for its day.
