His father, Jerome Clapp Jerome, an architect by profession, had married Marguerite Jones, the daughter of a Swansea solicitor. Their son's middle name was derived from George Klapka, an Hungarian exile and friend of the family. J.C. Jerome was renowned as a Non-conformist preacher and was Deacon at Bridge Street Congregational Church in Walsall. The family moved to Poplar, London, and Jerome senior set up an ironmongery. On leaving school at the age of fourteen, Jerome Klapka Jerome started out as a clerk at Euston Railway Station. He became an actor, but also tried his hand at teaching and journalism, his early humorous pieces becoming quite popular. His first books to be published were On the stage and off (1885) and Idle thoughts of an idle fellow (1886). Z St. Jerome Born at Stridon, a town on the confines of Dalmatia and Pannonia, about the year 340-2; died at Bethlehem, 30 September, 420. He went to Rome, probably about 360, where he was baptized, and became interested in ecclesiastical matters. From Rome he went to Trier, famous for its schools, and there began his theological studies. Later he went to Aquileia, and towards 373 he set out on a journey to the East. He settled first in Antioch, where he heard Apollinaris of Laodicea, one of the first exegetes of that time and not yet separated from the Church. From 374-9 Jerome led an ascetical life in the desert of Chalcis, south-west of Antioch. Ordained priest at Antioch, he went to Constantinople (380-81), where a friendship sprang up between him and St. Gregory of Nazianzus . From 382 to August 385 he made another sojourn in Rome, not far from Pope Damasus. When the latter died (11 December, 384) his position became a very difficult one. His harsh criticisms had made him bitter enemies, who tried to ruin him. After a few months he was compelled to leave Rome. By way of Antioch and Alexandria he reached Bethlehem, in 386. He settled there in a monastery near a convent founded by two Roman ladies, Paula and Eustochium, who followed him to Palestine. Henceforth he led a life of asceticism and study; but even then he was troubled by controversies which will be mentioned later, one with Rufinus and the other with the Pelagians.

three men in a boat by jerome k. jerome About the man Jerome Klapka Jerome, best known as the author of Three Men in a Boat, one of the great comic masterpieces of the English language, was born in Walsall, Staffordshire, on 2nd May 1859, the youngest of four children. His father, who was a prominent non-conformist preacher, had interests in the local coal and iron industries. Following the collapse of the family business, the Jeromes moved first to Stourbridge and from there to Poplar in the East End of London where Jerome was brought up in relative poverty. By the time he was fifteen both his parents were dead. Jerome left school lat fourteen and worked variously as a clerk, a hack journalist, an actor and a schoolmaster. His first book On the Stage and Off was published in 1885 and this was followed by numerous plays, books and magazine articles. In 1888 he married Georgina Elizabeth Henrietta Stanley Marris, known by her pet name Ettie. She was the daughter of a Spanish soldier and, when Jerome first met her, married with a five-year-old daughter Elsie. Georgina filed for divorce; it became absolute on 12 June 1888 and Jerome and she were married nine days later. They were both twenty-nine years old. Their honeymoon was spent on the Thames and Jerome began writing

Welcome, here is my collection of softdrink cans (okay, and some beer ones too). You might know them as Soda or Pop cans, depending on where you are. Most of my collection comprises softdrink cans, but I also collect any other cans like beer or juice cans, if they come my way. I am proud to say that this page was the FIRST to exist that is dedicated to softdrink cans in general, started way back in 1995. Sure, there were plenty of web pages specifically for Coke and beer cans, but not for softdrink cans in general, so I decided to put my page up. Of course, now there are a number of other pages dedicated to softdrink cans in general, most of which have surpassed the quality of this page (see other links below). I began collecting because I discovered they looked interesting when they are all stacked up on a shelf. Some of the cans in the collection are not circulated anymore, while most are current cans. My collection used to mostly comprise cans from AUSTRALIA , seeing that this is where I live, but I have since amassed a lot more cans from other countries due to trades conducted through this page. The collection currently numbers around 1000. A lot are from countries foreign to Australia. End of an Era: I am no longer trading . I have reached a personal milestone of 1000 cans and have run out of room. So, I am pursuing other interests. This web page will remain here for posterity though.
