Tutorial: Fun with the Morphic Graphics System
    by John Maloney
This tutorial is meant to be used in a Morphic Project. To create a Morphic Project simply hold the mouse button down on the Squeak window background, away from any other windows it contains, to get the screen menu. Select "open..." and then select "project (morphic)". A small orange "Unnamed" morphic project window appears. Click in the middle of it to zoom into the new Morphic Project. (If you are not sure where you are, just pop up the screen menu - if its title is "World", you are already in a Morphic Project.)
First we need to create a Browser and a Workspace. Just to review, hold down the mouse button on the blank Squeak screen. From the screen menu that appears, choose "open...". Click on "browser". A green browser will appear. Get the screen menu again and choose "open...", and choose "workspace". If you came fresh from the previous tutorial, you'll already have a category called "My Stuff". Scroll to the bottom of the leftmost list in the browser. It should be there. If not, we need to make a new place to add your stuff. In the upper left pane of the browser, use the right mouse button to get a menu

    TED HUGHES
"Every work of art stems from a wound in the soul of the artist... Art is a psychological component of the auto-immune system that gives expression to the healing process. That is why great works of art make us feel good. " Birthplace

    Yorkshire, England
    Education
Hughes started writing by composing comic poems "for classroom consumption" at the age of 11. At Pembroke College, Cambridge he began studying English but, finding his own writing stifled, changed to archaeology and anthropology.
    Other jobs
He did his national service with the RAF as a mechanic in Yorkshire, with "nothing to do but read and reread Shakespeare and watch the grass grow". Jobs to support himself while writing - though the urge to produce children's stories was also financial - included "rose gardener, night-watchman in a steel factory, zoo attendant, schoolteacher, and reader for J. Arthur Rank".

Hughes, Ted Hughes, Ted (Edward James Hughes), , English poet, b. Mytholmyroyd, Yorkshire. Hughes's best poetry focuses on the unsentimental within nature. His poems are marked by controlled diction and style, which create a sense of order and meaning in violent or passionate natural events, often in the world of animals. His volumes of poetry include The Hawk in the Rain Lupercal Wodwo Crow Gaudete Moortown River (1984), and Wolfwatching (1991). From 1984 until his death Hughes was poet laureate of England. He also wrote fiction, plays, stories for children, and essays, e. g., those included in the large collection Winter Pollen Plath ; he explored their complex relationship in Birthday Letters (1998), his last book of verse. Hughes, Ted The Tender Place
Genre Poem Keywords Caregivers Disease and Health Empathy Love ... Suffering Summary This poem is one in a series written by Ted Hughes, addressing his wife, Sylvia Plath , who committed suicide in 1963. After her first suicide attempt, and before she met Hughes, Plath was given electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for depression (see Plath's novel The Bell Jar for her own description of this). In this poem, Hughes contemplates the mechanics and symbolism of what seems so brutal and elemental a treatment. He focuses on the fragility and beauty of her body"Your temples, where the hair crowded in, / Were the tender place"and then makes us imagine the effect of electrodes there, in ever more shocking images: "They crashed / The thunderbolt into your skull," "They dropped you / A rigid bit of bent wire / Across the Boston City grid." He then suggests that there is a link between this treatment and the kind of poet she became: her "voice" was scarred and "over-exposed / Like an x-ray," and when her words returned they were distorted and vulnerable, "Faces reversed from the light / Holding in their entrails."
