Howard, Richard (b. 1929) Richard Howard's searching and witty poetry, in which homosexuality is not a problem but a solution, is a significant contribution to the gay and lesbian literary heritage. Among the most accomplished of contemporary American poets, Howard worries the subtleties of language and life in poems that are at once elegant and vigorous. He was born in Cleveland and educated at Columbia University and the Sorbonne. Currently University Professor of English at the University of Houston and poetry editor of The Paris Review , he is also a distinguished translator and critic. Sponsor Message.

Source: History of Boone County, Indiana, by Hon. L.M. Crist, 1914. RICHARD W HOWARD "Agriculture is the oldest of all alchemy," says a distinguished
writer, "for it turns earth and even refuse into gold and confers upon its cultivator the
additional reward of health." The oldest of human vocations and noblest of them all has
been honored in Boone county by the successful career of Richard W. Howard, one of the
enterprising and public-spirited citizens of Marion township. He has spent his long life in
this locality in connection with general farming and has done his part in encouraging better
farming methods with the advancing years. His career contains few mistakes and abounds
in much that is honorable and of good report, containing the record of an untarnished
name and a character above reproach which is much more to be desired than great riches. Mr. Howard was born in Clinton township, Boone county, December 21, 1843. He is a
son of John and Margaret (Alexander) Howard, the former a native of Mason county,
Kentucky, and the latter of Pennsylvania. After their marriage they settled in Rush county

31. Boston Review: Richard Howard Reviews Poetry By W.S. Merwin

Poetry The Vixen
W. S. Merwin
Alfred A. Knopf, $21
by Richard Howard Writing an essay, nearly three decades ago, in which I attempted to present some account of Merwin's achievement in the first fifteen years of his art six volumes of poetry, four verse plays, many translations, and a number of prose texts, the latter more often travel pieces than criticism I happened to invoke Tennyson as a "punctual" exponent of contemporary feeling comparable to Merwin; now it seems to me that my analogy would have been more answerable had I waited thirty years and another six volumes of poetry to cite the earlier poet: "The hills are shadows and they flow / From form . . . ." For Merwin's new book of 64 linked poems linked by theme, tone, trope, and fastidiously evolved style is certainly the closest any modern poet (by which I mean a poet committed as Merwin has so faithfully been to the energies of fragmentation, erasure, and all those energies we identify as negative ) has come to that glorious invention of Tennyson's which was to have such a remarkable progeny in the next century, the poetic sequence published, anonymously, in 1850

You need an experienced Criminal Attorney who will work for you to obtain the best results possible! In Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton and the surrounding North Texas and East Texas counties and communities I provide criminal defense attorney services in Federal, State, and Juvenile Courts for Felonies and Misdemeanors. If you have been accused of a crime, the decisions you make about your case can literally change your life. Whether it's a trial or a plea bargain, it is your life and liberty that is at stake. Like the medical patient seeking an experienced doctor, you need an experienced attorney to help advise you as to the law related to your case, the options available in disposition of your case, and the risks involved in proceedings connected to your case. For over eight years, I have been helping people charged with crimes make these crucial decisions. I have successfully assisted thousands of people like you to resolve their criminal cases. Often, I have been able to persuade prosecutors to seek no jail or to offer favorable pleas. In many cases, I have convinced juries that my clients were "Not Guilty" of the charges leveled against them. I have successfully handled cases involving charges of Murder, Assault, Family Violence, Drugs, Robbery, Forgery, Credit Card Fraud, Kidnapping, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI and DUI), Theft, Evading and Resisting Arrest, Drivers License Suspensions and Revocations, and White Collar Crimes.

Richard M. Nixon press conference releasing the transcripts of the White House tapes, 04/29/1974.
Richard Nixon's Greatest Cover-Up: His Ties to the Assassination of President Kennedy by Don Fulsom S eared into the memories of all Americans who lived through the assassination of President John F. Kennedy is exactly where they were on November 22, 1963. Yet private citizen Richard Nixon, who — believe it or not — was in Dallas, could not recall this fact in a post-assassination interview with the FBI. The interview dealt with an apparently false claim by Marina Oswald that her husband —alleged Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald — had targeted Nixon for death during an earlier trip to Dallas. A Feb. 28, 1964 FBI report on the interview said Nixon "advised that the only time he was in Dallas, Texas, during 1963 was two days prior to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy." While Nixon eventually came clean regarding his whereabouts on that fateful day, he seemed touchy whenever the matter was raised. For example, in a 1992 interview with CNN's Larry King, Nixon interjected he was in Dallas "In the morning!" when King cited the presumed geographical coincidence. Nixon left Dallas on a flight to New York several hours before Kennedy's noontime arrival at Love Field.

HOWARD, RICHARD AUSTIN (ca. 1824-1866). Richard Austin Howard, surveyor and soldier, was born in Maine about 1824. He moved to Brandon, Mississippi, with some family members in 1832. He attended the United States Military Academy from 1840 to 1844 but was discharged on July 13, 1844, for a deficiency in science before his graduation. He then moved to Texas, worked as a surveyor, and volunteered during the Mexican War. qv He was mustered into the federal service on June 6, 1846, and promoted to second lieutenant six weeks later, before his company was discharged on October 2. In 1847 Howard served as a scout and surveyor with John O. Meusebach qv in the latter's attempt to secure the Fisher-Miller Land Grant qv for German immigration. Early in that year Meusebach concluded a treaty with the Comanches at the old San Saba Presidio in which the Indians, in return for some $3,000 in presents, agreed to allow settlers and surveyors to enter their country. One of the surveyors to grasp this opportunity was Howard, who in 1847 surveyed the tract for the future Fort Mason. While in the Corpus Christi area Howard encountered a former West Point classmate, Lt. William H. C. Whiting. qv Having accompanied the Hays-Highsmith expedition the previous year, Howard was well qualified to serve as a scout for Whiting's 1849 survey of what would later be called the lower route from San Antonio to El Paso. Whiting had been ordered by Gen. William Jenkins Worth
