Full text available as: HTML Abstract Addition to strained double bonds and the Wittig reaction The reaction of the zwitterionic tributylphosphoniodithioformate 1 with a number of alkenes has been investigated. No cycloaddition was observed with cyclohexene, styrene or stilbene. With norbornene a bright pink solid 2 was rapidly formed. The structure of this and its composition as a 1:1 adduct + CS2 were clear from analytical and spectroscopic data. In particular the 13C NMR spectrum clearly showed the unusual structure 2. The intermediate ylide can be successfully intercepted by carrying out the reaction in the presence of benzaldehyde producing the new tricyclic dithiolane. The pink adduct 2 also reacts with benzaldehyde to give the same product. Most conveniently the one pot reaction of the four simple starting materials also gave this complex product directly in moderate yields. Norbornadiene gave similar results. We have previously reported that this reaction can be carried out on a range of bicyclo[2.2.1]alkenes readily available from the Diels-Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene. In the remainder of this presentation, we will concentrate on more recent extensions of this chemistry.

John Bruce, who joined the the army at the same time as TE Lawrence, is reported as stating years after Lawrence's death in a motorcycle accident that Bruce was tricked by Lawrence into birching him regularly: Lawrence apparently showed Bruce letters purporting to come from Lawrence's uncle who said Lawrence had stolen money, the uncle needed proof that Lawrence would be regularly birched until it had all been paid back. Green Hill Cemetery Tour Start Point Green Hill Cemetery, 18th Street entrance in Bedford. Green Hill Cemetery is regarded as having some of the finest examples of stone carvings in the country. The Association which runs the Cemetery was organized on March 30, 1889. One of its principle organizers was one of the county's outstanding citizens and doctors. Dr., Ben Newland and his wife Louisa, are believed to have been the first people buried in the new section. The iron fence which encloses the cemetery was erected in 1908 and 1909 at a cost of $396. It is not known how many people are buried in the old part but you can recognize veterans from the Civil War, Mexican War, War of 1812 and both World Wars. Monuments include many of the founding fathers of the area. Near the center of the old part, you will find stones of early immigrants from such countries as Ireland, Scotland, France and Germany. Many of the epitaphs are in their native language. Enter the main gate and park. Walk along the fence to the left (east) of the gate to the corner.

There are about 6 miles of Nordic ski trails in this area laid out in a loop system. The truck trails in this area are designated as snowmobile trails. The area is approached by taking State Route 436 between Nunda and Dansville. Approximately 5 miles east of Nunda or 6 miles west of Dansville, look for the Shute Road which departs to the southwest. Follow the Shute Road for 3/4 miles, then turn left (south) on the Walsworth Road. In about 1 mile this road will terminate in a parking lot in the wildlife management area.
